We travelled in Uzbekistan for four weeks and the 7-day hiking tour was the highlight of the trip. It gave us such a different perspective on life, and culture and history of the country. Our 26 year old guide, Sober, was from the local village of Uhum which meant he had a genuine connection with the land. We learnt so much about agriculture, seasons, effect of climate change v. human-made devastation, names of brids and wildlife. I am retired and was worried about the challenges of hiking but all the walks were very manageable and enjoyable. No sore muscles, even after all the river crossings! Our driver from Bukhara to Sentob was very kind, stopped to feed our coffee addiction, bought us the famous cheese balls and let us wander at ase around Alexnader's fortress site. Hospitality at every homestaty was exceptional. I am a retired teacher so visiting the Sentob school with our Gul Murad's daugher from Rhima's Guest House was particularly wonderful. Team GB did not excel at volleyball but we redeemed outselves at basketball and in the English class! Ms Muhabbat Mirzaeva showed us how to bake bread, while Mr Qoldosh showerd us with wonderful fruits from his orchard. The high point for my friend was being asked to deliver a horse to a neighbouring village. Meeting Prda, the warden in the Nature Reserve, was interesting and his family invited us to join their party. In Uhum we helped make plov. I hope other visitors share this wonderful experience, paying homage to the land and village life, without changing it too much by making unnecessary demands. We will treasure our time here, especially Sober's first class guiding and support. Thank you
