Sylvie Bertrand is a Montreal-born, Brooklyn-based writer, editor, and longtime writing teacher. She teaches memoir and fiction at The Writers Studio and is the co-founding editor of Cagibi, an independent literary journal and arts organization. Her work has appeared in Epiphany, Cleaver, Peregrine, December, and Alexandria Quarterly. Her story “One of Them” received a Pushcart Prize Special Mention and a PEN/Robert J. Dau nomination.
Sylvie likes to work with writers, not just manuscripts. Her teaching is centered on helping writers find the heart of the story they are trying to tell while developing a deeper understanding of their own creative process. She is especially interested in narrative voice, the emotional and thematic concerns of personal narratives, and the ways individual stories can speak to the larger social world they come from.
