What a fantastic experience we had during our night excursion at Tapir Valley Nature Reserve! This beautiful, privately protected nature reserve borders Tenorio National Park and is dedicated to reforestation and providing a safe wildlife corridor. Upon arrival, we discovered we were getting an exclusive private tour, which instantly made the experience feel incredibly special and intimate. After gearing up with sturdy rubber boots and flashlights, we stepped into the pitch-black jungle. Those boots were definitely a necessity; we quickly left the main trails behind to trek straight through the rugged wilderness and mud. It made the hike thrilling and gave us a genuine feeling of being at one with nature. Halfway through the excursion, they provided a well-taken-care-of snack, which was a very welcome and thoughtful touch to keep our energy up. Although we had secretly hoped to spot one of the resident tapirs, they decided to avoid us during our three-hour walk. That is just the unpredictable law of nature! Fortunately, this was more than made up for by our guide's incredible sharp eye. Thanks to him, we discovered fantastic mini-fauna that we probably would have missed on our own. Our flashlights revealed an impressive collection of nocturnal creatures: numerous colorful frogs and toads, a perfectly camouflaged walking stick, and an insect that looked exactly like a dead leaf. The absolute highlight was finding several snakes, including a stunning Eyelash Viper coiled on a branch. Another incredibly unique sight was a tiny, sleeping hummingbird resting motionlessly under a large leaf. In short: an intensive, beautiful, and highly educational night walk. A must-do for nature lovers looking to experience the authentic, untamed side of Costa Rica. This reserve is doing amazing work!

Such a wonderfull experience. We have seen tapir , snake fer de lance et lots of colorfull frogs !! Very amazing !! And we enjoy the snack - We have to do it 😉

We had a great time on the night tour. Jesús was an extremely skilled guide and spotted lots of frogs, insects, and birds for us. We even were able to see a Spectacled Owl and two Tapirs! Highly recommend if you are in area and want to see some phenomenal wildlife! Snacks were also delicious!

Our guide did enormous efforts to show us the highlight of this tour- a Tapir. And sure enough we saw one. Maybe we were not lucky enough and could have seen more, but it was still a very interesting experience. I also liked that this way we saw that it is NOT staged and these animals are really in their natural habitat and there is no control of how many you can find in a day. We saw so many more interesting frogs, snakes, toucans, so overall it was a worth experience. I still find it on a little bit of expensive side, but it is what it is. The snack provided was a nice break from walking. One thing i would suggest for people who decide to go ahead with this - put some mosquito repellent, as at some point we were attacked by lots of bugs. Thank you again for showing us another beautiful wildlife in Costa Rica. We hope to be back one day and see Tapir’s babies. (The girl we saw was pregnant)

Sin duda el mejor tour que he hecho en Costa Rica y no porque los demás no me hayan gustado sino porque este es apasionante. Estuvimos el 12 de mayo en el turno de las 17:30, tour nocturno en grupo, aunque solo fuimos mi pareja y yo. Fue una experiencia inolvidable, tanto por el lugar que es maravilloso y la fauna como por nuestro guía, que sin duda hizo la visita aún más interesante, tanto es así que cuando terminamos me pareció que solo habíamos estado una hora máximo y fueron más de 3 horas. Y es que nuestro guía se notaba que amaba su trabajo. Vimos 3 tapires de los que nos habló a nivel individuos y especie. Fue impresionante! Se esforzó en que observáramos el mayor numero posible de especies, anfibios, insectos, reptiles... Tenía mucho conocimiento de todas y cada una de las especies que íbamos viendo, se preocupaba por saber en qué especies estábamos más interesados para poder ofrecernos una visita lo más completa posible. No sé limitó a ir por los senderos mostrándonos lo que iba encontrando sino que las buscaba con mucho interés para poder mostrarnoslas. Su conocimiento de ecología era muy amplio y además de guía hizo de educador medioambiental, algo muy de agradecer porque te demuestra el gran profesional que tienes delante, al que le apasiona su trabajo, que no es solo el de enseñar los diferentes animales que puedes ver en la reserva sino que hace un labor de concienciación muy importante. Mi más sincera enhorabuena a este gran guia que hizo de nuestra visita una experiencia de sueño, contesto a todas nuestras preguntas, que no eran pocas, con mucha paciencia y amabilidad. Espero que con la fecha y hora puedan saber de quién se trata porque merece un reconocimiento por la labor que hace y lo recomiendo sin ninguna duda, soy terrible para los nombres🫣, lo siento.
