The Pelion Retreat in Greece was superb. We stayed in seperate, small, picturesque houses which were built up the mountain next to a little village with a small grey church whose musical bells chimed on the hour!
It was unbelievably beautiful. From our houses we looked down and across the sea to the land that Alexander the Great came from and where The Odyssey and the famous stories in Greek Mythology took place. Every evening we watched warm, golden sunsets from the Yoga Shala and the balcony of the Dining area where we ate our meals after each yoga session..
All our houses were built in the style of the area with quaint square roofs in thick grey tiles with excellent facilities. My balcony & bedroom windows not only looked out on this amazing view but also I looked over a small field full of wild flowers and long grass where a slow moving grey horse munched the day away often joined by a few goats which would appear from nowhere! It was a very rural area!
We were surrounded by peace and quiet except for the masses of song birds and swallows. Sometimes during yoga you would hear the low chat of the girls, who worked at Pelion Homes, picking the cherries which were abundant in the fruit trees below us
and all the wonderful fresh vegetables and other fruits that are grown in the gardens of Pelion. All this picking was for or our consumption.
The food was exceptional ! Everything was freshly prepared for us by the young enthusiastic chefs and their helpers who produced delicious and beautiful delicacies. It really was food for the God's!
We swam in our pools, we swam in the turquoise sea, we visited the villages and the local Greek Orthadox monastery which houses 38 nuns! We laughed alot and enjoyed each others company!
And ... we did yoga! Laurent's style is always so healthy and beneficial to our wellbeing, he always includes a mixture of teachings not just Hatha and Ashtanga. Scarivelli's style is very much included which I really enjoy practising as did everyone on this retreat. We stretched our muscles, we sweated, we laughed which is always included in yoga with Laurent, we worked out and we relaxed.
He also, very generously introduced us to two new forms of movement (new to us but well recognized ) We were taught some basics of The Bartenieff Fundamentals and the Laban style. Both methods are a study of movement. A very special friend of his called Pauline Memelink who lives in Holland and is trained in these practises was invited to join us on this retreat to open our minds to the fact that there are even more ways to take care of your flexibility and your mobility which is something for all of us to build on.
Thank you Laurent and Jose for such an exquisite week where everything was perfect.
Well done, it was a wonderful achievement.
