A sensory overload - it's hard to recount the times this phrase has been used to describe an experience in Delhi. With its rich archaeological history, built over generations by kingdoms that ruled the city, Delhi is a melting pot of cultures. It was bred on the milk of royal culture, brought up in the lap of kings, and reached maturity in an atmosphere of learning and knowledge curated selection of experiences will transport you across Delhi’s rich cultural syncretism, which has served as both its greatest strength and vulnerability.
Sight that Beholds You:
This tour begins with Humayun’s Tomb, one of the best-preserved Mughal monuments. This spellbinding mausoleum is the first example of Mughal architecture in India. A century after its construction, Humayun’s tomb inspired the construction of the more famous Taj Mahal. You’ll be picked up after breakfast and transferred to the airport to board the flight for Jabalpur (approximately 200 km, 4 hours).
You'll board Indigo Airlines for the 2-hour flight to Jabalapur. You'll then be driven to Bandhavgarh National Park, approximately 200 km (4 hours) away. You'll check into your lodge, then perhaps take a sunset birding walk around the lodge.
You'll have an early-morning wake-up call, accompanied by a knock on your door, and served with tea or coffee.
You will wake up to misty mornings and the sounds of birds calling, making for an exciting start to your day. As soon as dawn breaks, depart for your Jungle Safari, accompanied by a resident naturalist and forest park guides in 4x4 jeeps. In the winter months, morning safaris require warm clothing, including woolen caps and gloves, to protect you from the wind chill factor in your open jeep. We provide blankets and, occasionally, a hot water bottle to keep you comfortable.
You'll return to the lodge for a delicious lunch and a chance to take a short nap before you depart on an afternoon safari.
Today will be on a similar schedule as yesterday. An early morning wake-up leads to another spectacular safari. What beautiful birds might you see today? Will you spot any sloth bears, jackals, or elephants? How many deer species will you see?
After an early morning wake-up, you'll head out on one final safari at Bandhavgarh National Park.
You'll then depart on a five-hour drive that winds through rural countryside and colorful towns and villages. You'll stop in the sleepy town of Mandla, a sacred city for the Gond tribes, where the Narmada River, the second holiest to the Ganges, is the center of activity. En route, enjoy your picnic lunch, and arrive at Kanha, in the late afternoon where you will check in at the Lodge.
As with your lodge at Bandhavgarh, you will have a very early-morning wake-up call, accompanied by a knock on your door and tea or coffee served.
You have a morning safari in a 4x4 jeep, accompanied by a resident naturalist and forest guide, followed by lunch and another safari. In the afternoon safari. We are staying with the family whose heritage in tiger conservation dates back three generations. Kailash Sankhala was the founder and director of Project Tiger, under which the Project Tiger Reserves in India were established. Their grandchildren run and manage Kanha Jungle Lodge and also own the travel company you are traveling with in India. You will have a firsthand opportunity to interact with them and spend an evening watching the award-winning documentary "Tigerland." This film, made by the Discovery Channel, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and focuses on two passionate people trying to save the Tiger. One of them is Kailash Sankhala.
By this point in your journey, you've likely seen tiger, sambal deer, spotted deer, Barasingha, and barking deer. You've almost certainly heard the alarm calls from deer, as they spot a leopard or tiger on the hunt.
You'll stop at mid-morning for a coffee/tea and delicious snacks. Afterward, you and your companion will board your safari vehicle to continue your search. Regardless of how many animals you spot, being in an old-growth sal forest is an amazing experience. You wonder how a predator can possibly have success while wading through the thick bunch of crunchy sal leaves covering the forest floor.

No wonder the area provides a backdrop for its animal character, dominated by a relatively open canopy of mixed forest, predominantly teak, with open grassy patches. The park, with its undulating terrain, boasts the highest herbivore density of any Indian park.
It has a wide diversity of wildlife, including Leopards, Tigers, Jungle Cats, Dholes (Wild Dogs), Sloth Bears, Wild Boars, Mongooses, Gaurs, and the highest density of Herbivores. The forest is primarily a teak wood forest, a highly valued hardwood.
You're quite used to the routine by this point of the trip. After a light snack and coffee or tea, you're off to explore this stunning national park, which offers amazing geology on top of abundant wildlife viewing.
You'll stop mid-morning for drinks, to use the bathroom, and to enjoy delicious appetizers before loading back into your vehicle. Your guide will be keenly aware of any animals you haven't seen yet and will focus on finding them. The number of deer species is plenty to keep you interested, and birds like White-throated, and Common kingfisher, Alexandrine, Plum-throated, and Rose-throated parkakeet, and Indian Peaflowl are such stunning birds that you will never lack for something to observe.
Today will be your last full day of safari. How many tigers have you seen? Have you seen Indian elephants? Whatever you haven't seen will be your priority today. Your only task is to enjoy the stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, and great company.
You'll drive back to Jabalapur, for your two-hour flight to Delhi. You'll arrive in time for dinner, and enjoy one last night of relaxing sleep in India.
