Welcome to Peru!
You arrive at the airport of Cusco where you are welcomed and then taken to your hotel by private transfer (regular check-in time: 11:00am). Don't forget to grab a handful of complimentary Coca leaves right when you exit the plane to help with any altitude adjustment. It'll get you feeling like a local right away.
Cusco - The “Navel of the Earth” is another name for Cusco, since during the height of the Inca civilization nearly all pathways led to this capital of the empire. Today, almost every visitor to Peru eventually comes to this city located 11,150 feet above sea level (3,400 meters) and one of the best places to experience the remainders of different ages. You will not only find Incan walls and temples, but also colonial mansions and catholic churches. In combination with the flair of modern Cusco, it is one of the most fascinating cities in the country.
Unpack your bags and get settled in. We are located in the heart of Cusco so you merely have to walk out the door to start exploring this vibrant and rich city filled with food, shopping, and culture.
Make sure to fill up on delicious coca leaf tea to stave off any travel tiredness and help with altitude acclamation.
For those arriving early, we have a delicious excursion to the Chocolate Museum located in the heart of historic Cusco. Together we learn about cacao and how it becomes the yummy chocolate we love to indulge in. Try your hand at making your own and give Godiva a run for it's money!
In the evening, you will walk to Incanto Restaurant to enjoy a welcome dinner where the whole group with gather for our first official meeting.
We are so excited to welcome you to amazing Peru!
Rise and Shine!
We start the day with a light and travel releasing yoga class to twist out any stiffness.
After filling up on a delicious breakfast, we head out to go on a city tour of Cusco which consists of a visit to its most important landmarks of both the Inca and the Colonial times with our incredible guide, Amaru.
During our walking tour we will visit Qoricancha, also known as the temple of the sun. A catholic monastery, Santo Domingo, was built on the site, partly including the Incan Walls of the Sun Temple.
The Cathedral, considered the best repositoryof colonial art from the Cusco school. It was built over the palace of the Inca Wiracocha and considered the religious and political centre of Cusco during the Inca era.
From there we walk through the Inca Street of Loreto, a finesample of the old town and its remarkable Inca walls. Don't miss trying to find all 12 points on the 12 pointed stone!
The journey continues when we leave the city to visit the outer parts of Cusco were you can find important ruins of the Inca Empire. Between them the most important is the archaeological park of the fortress-temple Saqsaywaman which shows precise zigzags of massive stone to which centuries of time could not do any harm.
At the site, a shaman awaits you for an Andean ceremony in honor of Mother Earth (“pago a la tierra”). This magical ceremony sets the tone for our journey by connecting us as one to the land, the people, each other, and self. Pay attention as Mother Earth gentle whips the winds or sends a bird to acknowledge our presence and our positive intentions.
In the afternoon, we leave Cusco and drive to your hotel in the Urubamba Valley, also known as the Sacred Valley of the Inca.
The spectacular drive will give you views of some of the most break taking scenery you've ever seen.
Altitude also significantly drops here making it feel like closer to home.
The day begins with a connecting yoga class focused on grounding down into the Earth and reaching high into the Heavens.
Perhaps on our way to class, we will be greeted by the properties Llamas and peacocks, or even the resident pet deer!
Fill our bellies with an array of healthy and fresh foodies and don't miss the handmade caramel spread, a cult favourite of our groups!
We set out that morning to the village of Pisac. The place is known for its numerous agricultural terraces and its colorful market. The hills on its southern and eastern side were used intensively by the Incas and above, they built a religious center with temples and buildings that stand out architecturally.
We honor Mother Earth and these sacred sites by sending off well wishes with traditional Andean coca leaf rituals lead by Amaru that let her know our gratitude for supporting our journey in being here.
The whole area has a wide range and you will stroll through it, discovering new sites after each curve and having a new perspective onto the Sacred Valley.
After visiting the ruins, we go down to the village for the market visit to get our shop on! It is a well-known market amongst inhabitants and tourists which did not lose its original charm in spite of the high numbers of visitors.
There are two sections that can be visited: one local part where people of Pisac and surrounding villages sell and buy their fruits and vegetables bargaining prices. On the other hand, there is the part where are many handicraft stands with ceramics, alpaca clothes and jewelry. Bargaining is welcome here, too!
The perfect place to find unique and special crafts to bring home for you and your loved ones.
After a full day we head home to take a restorative evening yoga class before our group dinner and a night of deep and restful sleep.
We welcome in the day with an awakening yoga class that continue to help us melt away the layers, find Earth, and open our hearts. Gratitude will be radiating off of us as we move on the mat, breathe together, and celebrate the joy of life.
After group breakfast we head out to one of our most favourite destinations and experiences, the village of Amaru and its wonderful residents! The will literally steal your hearts!
The people here live a simple life and support themselves with agriculture, animal husbandry and the production of artisan handicrafts.
Among the most famous products are textiles; their colors and intricate patterns well-known over the borders of Peru.
Here, where people don’t have cars and hospitals are far away, local shamans rely on ancient homeopathic remedies that have been passed down from generations.
After a welcome with typical flowers and a scrumptious homemade lunch (be sure to load up on the homemade mouthwatering salsa!), we will learn about the traditional medicine.
We will get to know the different medicinal plants and what they cure and some of us will get to be guinea pigs to try out treatments that we make on the spot!
A walk through their fields shows up the diverse agriculture that they have and gives us a new sense of appreciation for the food that we eat. See if you can spot which vegetation is the super food Quinoa! Be you'd be surprised about how it grows.
We promise you that you are not going to want to leave these wonderful ladies, but alas its time to head back for some evening chill yoga and group dinner.
Hearts will be full as you drift off to sleep in the peaceful belly of the mountains.
Start out morning with a lot of breath. We unroll the mat and clear space with our breath, moving out impurities so there can be space. Listen to the sounds of the rolling river just outside and take a moment to feel how blessed you truly are. Everything you need is already within and our journey helps us connect back to feeling that Truth.
A fresh breakfast fills and fuels us before the next day of excitement and exploration begins.
Today, we make our way to Moray, a Pre-Incan site built with round, agricultural terraces, some of them up to 150m deep. Scientists say that the Inca used the terraces to create micro-climates and experiment on different crops and find out under which climatic influences they grow best.
Under the guidance of Amaru and Pachamama, we sneak away from the tourists and commune in a special spot. Here, if it aligns, we lay in the grass and open ourselves to the blessings gifted to us through his care in preforming an Andean ritual commonly used by they ancients on these grounds. The sweet sound of his flute and singing will transcend you to a place beyond words and the veil between them and us dissolves and you truly feel as one.
Pay attention for the nods of approval sent from Mother Earth in the form of a rare Condor flying overhead.
Nearby, wel visit the alkalizing salt flats near the small village of Maras.
Since before Incan times, salt water has been distributed in pans and dried for harvesting, making Maras in Inca times an important trading center. The harvesting is up to this day done by hand. When the sun comes out, the light reflects from the salt pans in beautiful patterns, depending on the time of day and the water level in the pans.
Its always fun to taste how salty the warm water really is with a little lick and to bounce down and around the salt terraces for that perfect photo opt.
Make sure you purchase some of the healing salt to throw into a bath back at our hotel and help heal the body and nourish the spirit.
Wind down with evening yoga and another delightful evening meal over laughter and great conversations.
We are truly one.
Sleep in a bit today! Its our day off.
Move your body and breath deeply with morning yoga class and a leisurely breakfast.
Today is your day to add in your own excursion through the Sacred Valley, or kick back and enjoy the property. There is much to see and enjoy including catching some rays by the beautiful pools.
This day is also perfect to get an oxygen treatment and really energise you're senses or a perfectly crafty spa treatment.
You can do coca leave wraps and sweat it out in the traditional steam lodges, or even an Andean fire massage! We highly recommend scoping out the offering before the trip so you can map out what excites you and have it booked when we arrive.
Hiking, Mountain Biking, and Horseback Riding are also some of the other optional activities that you might want to spend your day enjoying.
If you are feeling a little frisky and find the arroyo, peddling yourself across the river might be a fun little thrill.
It's also a great day for introspection, meditation and just plain rest and relaxation.
We come together again for dinner and story swapping having been recharged for the next leg of our journey.
We sadly say goodbye to our home in the Sacred Valley and transfer to the train station of Ollantaytambo.
You board the stunning Vistadome train with destination Aguas Calientes. With snow covered mountains in the background, you drive through a scenic river valley with small villages and diverse flora until you reach the train station at the foot of Machu Picchu. Enjoy watching all of this through the unique glass domed train and you won't miss a single break taking sight.
Upon arrival we make the last step of the way up a twisting road in a shuttle bus.
Welcome to one of the 7 World Wonders, Machu Picchu!
Upon arrival at the most famous Inka ruins in the world, you enjoy a guided tour of the marvellous citadel, visiting the main plaza, the Temple of Three Windows, the circular tower, the sacred sun dial and the burial grounds.
Amaru's expert knowledge and unique approach to showing us around lets us connect to these sacred sites as his ancestors once did. Picture us sitting on a secluded and serene part of the sacred mountain, away from the crowds, and just listening to Mother Earth, feeling her. Yes, it's that special and powerful.
Machu Picchu, the „lost city of the Inca“, is not only one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, but also the biggest treasure of Peru’s past and the empire of the Inca. Undiscovered by the Spaniards and forgotten over centuries, it was 1911 that the US-American scientist Hiram Bingham came upon it accidentally.
Until today, the ruins leave scientists with numerous questions and riddles on how it was built and for which purpose. Theories vary but one thing is for sure: Machu Picchu is one of the most impressive and exciting places in the world, sublime and majestic on top of the mountain and surrounded by impenetrable rainforest.
We have plenty of time to climb the terraces and take in different perspectives marvelling at how something so incredible could have been built literally in the middle of nowhere, with no modern machinery.
Don't forget your passport as you can get a Machu Picchu stamp at the gate to document this hallmark moment or travel epicness!
Dinner winds down the night and we grab a solid night of sleep for our earl rise the next day.
Machu Picchu calls us to return again.
It's and early morning! We wake before the sun and get out to catch the sun rise over Machu Picchu weather permitting.
Today we have more time to explore the terraces and for those that want to climb to the very top, this is our day.
The climb itself has various landing stops where you can decided to rest before continuing on, or just be content and take in the views from there. Everyone has the option of doing as much or as little strikes them that day and every vantage point is uniquely spectacular. You won't miss out either way.
If you do decide to make the trek up to the top., you will be greeted with some of the most spectacular sites you've ever seen. Quite literally you will feel like you can touch the sun and are on top of the world.
Its a peaceful, exhilarating, and jaw dropping place to just site, marvel, and breath it all in.
We could think of no better place to meditate and release what no longer serves you because here, you are right next to the Gods.
You've made it. You are here, and you are truly blessed. Words will be hard to find for sharing this with those back home, but then again, experiences like these that transform you, are always beyond the limitations of words.
Take in all that you can on this full day in Machu Picchu as tonight we head back to Cusco and have our last dinner together as a group on this transformational journey.
Our hearts always breaks a bit on these last days as we say ' See you later' instead of 'Goodbye'.
Our morning yoga session will help bring this transformational trip to a temporary close as this chapter finishes and we step into the next, shifted, happier, lighter.
Breakfast is enjoyed and depending on flights, you either have the day to explore Cusco some more and getting in more shopping and site seeing, or your private transfer awaits to take you home.
Surely a piece of your heart will be left in the glorious lands of Peru and a bit within each other.
Its been a wild, thrilling, fun, and heart filling ride and we can not wait to journey to the next Sacred Space with you.
As they say in Quechua : huq kutikama (see you later)
We thank you for creating memories and transformations together.
