At 11:00 am, we depart Riobamba (2,750 m) heading towards Chimborazo National Park, enjoying views of the high Andes and herds of vicuñas along the way. Around 1:00 pm, we arrive for a warm lunch at Chimborazo Basecamp Lodge (3,900 m), where you can rest and hydrate while taking in the dramatic views of Ecuador’s highest peak.
At 3:00 pm, we continue by 4x4 to the Chimborazo Carrel Refuge at 4,850 m. Those who have chosen to stay in the refuge will settle in for the afternoon and evening, using this time to rest and acclimatize in preparation for the climb.
Dinner is served at 5:00 pm, followed by time to rest and prepare gear. At 11:00 pm, climbers begin the summit push toward Chimborazo’s Whymper summit (6,263 m), departing under the stars for the best snow conditions and to reach the summit by sunrise.
The summit climb begins late at night, with the ascent taking between 6 to 10 hours depending on conditions and group pace. Climbers steadily gain altitude in the cold, clear air, aiming to reach Chimborazo’s Whymper summit at 6,263 m during the optimal summit window between 6:00 and 7:30 am, when views across the Andes are often at their best.
After taking summit photos and a moment to appreciate standing on the closest point to the sun, you will begin your careful descent, returning to Camp 1 (5,300 m) or the refuge (4,850 m) for a well-earned breakfast and time to rest.
Following a short recovery, we pack up and transfer back to Riobamba (2,750 m), marking the end of services and your Chimborazo expedition.
