At 10:00 AM, you will meet at the designated office in Riobamba, where your adventure begins. From there, you'll transfer to the Chimborazo Basecamp Lodge, a cozy and well-equipped retreat situated at an elevation of 3,900 meters. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a warm atmosphere and breathtaking views of Chimborazo, the highest peak in Ecuador. Your acclimatization journey starts here, with all meals provided, beginning with a hearty lunch that features local flavors and nutritious options to energize you for the day. Take the afternoon to adjust to the altitude, explore the surrounding trails, and enjoy the serene beauty of the high Andes. This day is designed to help your body prepare for higher elevations while immersing you in the majestic environment of Chimborazo.
After breakfast at Chimborazo Basecamp, we gather and begin our drive toward the Chimborazo Reserve. This scenic drive takes us closer to the base of the mountain, where the real adventure begins. From the reserve, we start our trek up toward the glacier at 5,300 meters (17,388 feet). The hike is designed to help you acclimatize while providing an introduction to glacier travel.
Once we reach the glacier, our experienced mountain guides will take over, providing important instructions on how to properly use your climbing gear. You will receive hands-on training in essential techniques, including:
This training session will last around six hours, giving you plenty of time to practice and become comfortable with the equipment and techniques necessary for a safe and successful summit attempt.
After completing the glacier training, we return to Chimborazo Basecamp for a well-deserved late lunch. The meal will provide you with the nutrients needed to replenish your energy. The rest of the day will be spent relaxing at the basecamp, allowing your body to recover and adapt to the altitude before the upcoming climbs.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Your day begins with a pick-up at midday, around 12:00 PM, followed by lunch and a meeting with your guides. Afterward, you will be transferred from your current location to the Chimborazo car park at 4,800 meters. From here, we continue to the High Camp, located at 5,200 meters (17,060 feet). This will be your base for the evening and the starting point for your climb. Once at High Camp, you'll have time to settle in, organize your gear, and get ready for the climb ahead.
Dinner will be served at 5:00 PM, providing a nourishing and energizing meal to fuel you for the challenging ascent. After dinner, you'll have time to relax, check your equipment, and rest before the big climb. The climb will begin at 10:00 PM, with your guide leading the way toward the summit of Chimborazo. Starting the climb at night allows for optimal conditions on the glacier and ensures you'll reach the summit by sunrise. As you make your way up, you'll experience the thrill of moving through the Andean night, with stunning views of the starry sky and Chimborazo’s rugged beauty illuminated by moonlight.
All meals are provided throughout the day, including a hearty breakfast, a balanced lunch, and an early dinner, ensuring you're well-prepared for the summit attempt.
The climb starts at 00:00PM, heading up the glacier under the clear night sky. Using headlamps to light the way, you'll follow your guide along the icy trail, step by step. The climb is steady and challenging, requiring focus and effort as you move higher through the thin mountain air. Along the way, you’ll take short breaks to catch your breath and stay hydrated.
After several hours of climbing, you’ll reach Chimborazo’s summit between 6:00 and 7:30 AM. Standing at the top, you’ll see an unforgettable view of the surrounding valleys, nearby peaks, and the sunrise lighting up the landscape. It’s a moment of achievement and awe, knowing you’ve reached the highest point in Ecuador and one of the most remarkable peaks in the world.
After enjoying the view, you’ll start heading back down the glacier. The descent is faster but still requires care as you make your way to the refuge. Once you arrive at the basecamp lodge, a warm breakfast will be ready for you, giving you time to relax and recover. Afterward, you’ll be transferred back to Riobamba, bringing your Chimborazo adventure to an end.
