ETHIOPIA: Origins, Empires & Black Heritage

A Roots of Royalty Cultural Journey

October 17–24, 2026

Addis Ababa • Axum • Gondar • Bahir Dar • Shashamane

Green Book Travel proudly invites you to Ethiopia — the highland heart of Black legacy, spiritual memory, and sovereign resistance. Here, history isn’t told. It’s etched into the land.

Ethiopia is one of the most powerful destinations on the African continent — an ancient crossroads of kingdoms, resistance, ingenuity, and Black identity. It is the only African nation never colonized, the keeper of empires, a birthplace of civilization, and the guardian of one of the world’s greatest mysteries: the Ark of the Covenant.

This journey is designed for travelers who want culture, adventure, royalty, depth, history, and memory-making woven into every day. A 10-day immersion crafted for the Diaspora: bold flavors, legendary sites, imperial palaces, majestic landscapes, and the unmistakable pride of a nation that has never bowed.

This is not a religious tour.
This is a journey of origins.
A Pan-African heritage experience.

A cultural portal into one of Africa’s most storied nations.
A passage into the story of a people who shaped the world — and a land that shaped the people.

You arrive curious. Whether you come seeking heritage, healing, history, or simply awe — Ethiopia will meet you.
You leave connected.

Walk in the Footsteps of Empires. Stand Where History Was Written.

Over 10 unforgettable days, you will explore Ethiopia’s most storied cities — Addis Ababa, Axum, Gondar, Bahir Dar, and Shashamane — each offering a different chapter of Africa’s epic past.

From the royal castles of Gondar to a private pilgrimage to the sacred Ark of the Covenant in Axum. From Lake Tana’s ancient island monasteries to the powerful halls of the African Union…
From vibrant cultural markets to Blue Nile’s breathtaking cascades…
From tea stalls and spice vendors to sacred coffee ceremonies that slow time.

Every moment pulls you deeper into Ethiopia’s legacy, resilience, and brilliance.

Walk through palaces once ruled by emperors and queens. Stand before towering obelisks carved by African architects thousands of years ago. Explore the Queen of Sheba’s Palace, where and empire meet. Connect with the global Rastafari community in Shashamane, where music, memory, and migration intertwine. Witness ancient traditions still alive today — from monastic chants to folk dances and drum circles. Learn how Ethiopia shaped Pan-African leadership, Black spiritual thought, and global history.

Here, the past isn’t preserved — it’s alive.

A Cultural Experience That Awakens Every Sense

This journey is for Black travelers who want more than a vacation —
those ready to experience the depth, dignity, and diversity of Africa through an Ethiopian lens.

You’ll feast on rich, spiced cuisine passed down for generations.
You’ll sip traditional teas and enjoy slow-brewed Ethiopian coffee in ceremonial fashion.
You’ll witness landscapes and landmarks that shift how you see Africa — and yourself.
You’ll engage with local communities, spiritual traditions, and royal sites in ways that honor both your curiosity and your crown.

This is travel with purpose.

Travel with legacy.
Travel that honors the brilliance of our ancestors — and the brilliance in us.

Every day adds a new piece to your story.
Every city opens a new door.

Limited Spaces. Infinite Meaning.

This is an intimate group experience designed for connection, access, and cultural reverence. Spaces are limited and sell out early.

Ready to travel beyond the surface?
Come home to Ethiopia.

Yes. Ethiopia is safe for travelers, and we’ve curated this itinerary with your comfort, well-being, and cultural security in mind. We partner with trusted local guides, licensed drivers, and vetted vendors. Our team manages all domestic flights, ground transportation, and logistics — so you’ll feel supported, prepared, and protected throughout the journey.

Q: Will we visit historical and sacred sites like the Ark of the Covenant or the Queen of Sheba’s Palace?
Yes. This itinerary includes exclusive access to Axum, where Ethiopian Orthodox tradition holds that the Ark of the Covenant is housed. You’ll also visit the Queen of Sheba’s Palace and Bath, ancient royal tombs, imperial castles in Gondar, the Ezana Stone, and Lake Tana’s island monasteries. Every day offers powerful encounters with Ethiopia’s living history.

Q: I don’t know my exact African lineage. Can I still join this journey?
Absolutely. This trip is not about DNA — it’s about Diaspora return, cultural reconnection, and remembering who we are as a global people. Whether your roots trace through the Middle Passage or across borders yet unknown, Ethiopia welcomes you. You’ll be part of a journey that honors our shared legacy and restores pride, clarity, and cultural memory.

Q: Is this trip only for Black or African American travelers?
No. While this experience centers African history and the Black Diaspora’s reconnection to the continent, it’s open to all respectful travelers. We welcome anyone with reverence for Ethiopia’s legacy, curiosity about Pan-Africanism, and a willingness to travel with humility, openness, and honor.

Q: I’ve heard Ethiopia is very spiritual. Will this trip be religious?
This is not a religious tour. While we visit sacred sites and engage with Ethiopia’s deep spiritual traditions — including Orthodox Christianity, Rastafari culture, and indigenous ceremonies — everything is offered from a historical and cultural lens. You’ll be invited to witness, learn, and reflect — but participation is always optional and inclusive.

Q: Can solo travelers join?
Yes! We love welcoming solo travelers — and many of our guests come alone and leave with lifelong friends. This is a group journey designed for connection. We offer optional roommate pairing for shared occupancy and create a supportive, welcoming environment from the moment you arrive.

Q: Will we visit Shashamane and the Rastafari community?
Yes. Shashamane is a key part of the journey. You’ll visit the land granted by Emperor Haile Selassie to returning Africans from the West Indies and beyond. There, you’ll meet members of the global Rastafari community, tour the Nyabinghi Temple, learn about their values and history, and explore the spiritual-cultural exchange between Africa and the Diaspora.

Q: What kind of cultural etiquette should I be aware of?
Ethiopia has a strong sense of tradition and cultural pride. We provide a full pre-departure guide with respectful dress tips, customs around food and greetings, and insight into spiritual spaces.
