About your trip

DEPARTURE: Any day except Monday with a minimum of 2 people

DURATION: 10 hours with drop off in Cuenca / 13 hours round trip from Riobamba

DETAILS

Pick up from your hotel at 6.15 a.m. and drive to the traditional highland town of Alausi, the starting point of the famous Devil’s Nose train ride. This railroad, constructed around 1900, is considered one of the world’s masterpieces of railway engineering; a zig-zag carved out of the rock, which allows the train by a series of switchbacks to descend along the steep mountainside to the hamlet of Sibambe. After visiting the small Puñuna Condor Museum return by train to Alausi. From here we continue by car to the southern highlands. After lunch in a local hacienda we start the guided visit of Ingapirca, Ecuador’s most important Inca ruins. The highlight of the complex is the elliptically shaped Temple of Sun, designed by the Inca architects to worship the sun. You will learn about the Inca and Cañari history, and can take a short hike to, "La Cara del Inca".
Afterwards we continue to Cuenca (arrive at 16.00), or return to Riobamba (arrive at 19.30 p.m.)
