During the bus ride, we will enjoy stunning scenery, including the Sacred Valley of the Incas, high Andean landscapes, and the impressive snow-capped La Verónica at Abra Málaga. We will make several stops: at 08:15 AM, we’ll have a 40-minute break near Ollantaytambo (optional breakfast and restroom use, not included), and we’ll pass through the town of Ollantaytambo at 09:00 AM. At 10:10 AM, we will reach Abra Málaga, the highest point of the route, and begin our descent into the high jungle of Cusco.
At 11:20 AM, we’ll stop at the Huamanmarka Sector to buy snacks and use restrooms. Then, we’ll pass through Santa María at 12:00 PM and Santa Teresa at 12:50 PM. We’ll finally arrive at the Hidroelectrica station at 1:45 PM, where you will have the option of a countryside lunch (optional and not included).
At 2:00 PM, we’ll start the 11 km walk to Aguas Calientes, which will take between 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on each traveler’s pace. This trail will allow you to fully appreciate the nature of the area. We expect to arrive in Aguas Calientes around 5:00 PM, where you may head to the accommodation of your choice (not included in the package).
The day begins with an exciting visit to Machu Picchu. There are two ways to get there: by taking a bus from Aguas Calientes (30 minutes) or by hiking for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. We recommend taking the bus up. To do so, you should leave your accommodation at 4:15 AM to queue and catch the first bus at 5:20 AM (the goal is to enter Machu Picchu at 6:00 AM).
After exploring and marveling at Machu Picchu, the visit must end no later than 11:00 AM to begin the descent to Puente Ruinas at 11:45 AM. This walk takes around 45 to 50 minutes. From Puente Ruinas, the trail becomes more level as we continue walking until reaching Hidroelectrica station.
From 2:40 – 2:50 PM, our minibuses will be ready at Hidroelectrica to return to Cusco, with a brief stop for restroom use in Alfamayo. We will finally arrive in Cusco between 9:45 and 10:00 PM, concluding the service at Plaza San Francisco.
