About your trip

Legacy Trips is proud to host our first, full, Writers Retreat on the Caribe side of beautiful Costa Rica!

The Writer's Retreat.

July 17-22.

Costa Rica.

This 6-day, 5-night retreat is for women and non-binary people of all racial identities who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women who are in any stage of their writing journey and in any phase of their love affair with words.

Our writer's retreat includes daily writing circles led by The Open Book Company founder, Kim Marsh, and movement/mindfulness sessions by Tina Strawn. The retreat includes themed workshops for various stages of the writing process, these are optional and will be customized to meet needs/interests of attendees. Additionally, you'll have plenty of expansive free time for catching up on reading, finding your new favorite novel, and/or writing and reflecting in the most peaceful setting being cradled in the beauty of the nature of Costa Rica.

Our evenings together invite you to participate in story salons (as a reader or observer) and join us for a special book launch celebration party for The Open Book Anthology, 'Avoided No More: On Writing Through Struggle, Shame, and Self-Doubt' with readings and interactive discussion.

In addition to the writing workshops, daily yoga asana practice and meditation sessions, this retreat also includes meals, a full-day beach excursion, mindfulness activities, dance and movement, and much more. Optional add-on private services are available including 1:1 writing or book coaching, massages and other forms of body and energy work.

This retreat is an exclusive offering with very limited space. There are multiple ticket options to choose from:

On-site/All-inclusive: This is the full package which includes overnight accommodations at our luxurious retreat space (single or double occupancy available), all meals and snacks, and all activities.

Commuter/Day Pass: This package includes the retreat experience without overnight accommodations. Perfect for those who live nearby or want to secure their own lodging. This package also includes all meals and snacks during our retreat days.

We have included a sample itinerary, though final workshops and agenda to be finalized based on attendees’ interests.

Upon registering for The Writer's Retreat - Costa Rica, you will be contacted by our support team to give you all the information you need to make arrangements for your travel to Costa Rica and help you prepare for the retreat. Please note that all Legacy Trips deposits are non-refundable, but are transferable to another Legacy Trip within the same calendar year.

Meet Your Facilitators

Kim Marsh (she/her) is a writing and book coach. She founded The Open Book Company to help individuals find, hone and use their voice. She does this through a coaching practice rooted in empathy, authenticity and self-compassion. The authors she works with go on to publish books with impact, meaning and purpose.

In addition to providing one-on-one coaching, Kim runs a global writing community, creating a space for grounding and accountability to anyone experiencing self-doubt or a desire for more support when it comes to their writing process. Kim firmly believes you don’t need to have a major book deal, a spot on a global stage or a PhD in English Lit to have a story worth telling. She lives in Montclair, NJ.

Tina Strawn (she/they) is a joy and liberation advocate, racial and social justice activist, author of "Are We Free Yet? The Black, Queer Guide to Divorcing America." Tina is also the owner and host of the Speaking of Racism podcast and the heart of Tina's work is founding and leading Legacy Trips, immersive, 3-day antiracism weekends where participants visit historical locations such as Montgomery and Selma, AL, and utilize spiritual practices and other mindfulness based resources as tools to affect personal and collective change. Tina has three adult children, an ex-husband, an ex-wife, and an ex-country. She has been a full-time minimalist nomad since February 2020 and currently lives in Costa Rica. Tina travels the globe speaking, writing, teaching, and exploring where on the planet she can feel safe and free in her queer, Black, woman-identifying body.
