About your trip

The time has come to join Cross Cultural Journeys CEO Cilla Utne in her homeland, and discover Sweden far beyond the guidebooks! From Malmö in the South, through the heritage trails from Småland to Roslagen, you will meet a country where peaceful pine forests spill over onto the remote coastal islands of the Stockholm archipelago, and where locally run hotels and high end "husmanskost" meals bring you straight into the heart of Swedish life. We will experience one of the world’s oldest democracies in everyday moments: learn through the openness of its people, the care taken in communities, and the respect woven into daily life.

This journey isn’t just about history and tradition. Sweden is constantly evolving. Alongside centuries-old customs and a sometimes stark history, you’ll encounter a vibrant, modern culture shaped by flavors and influences from around the world — from the traditional Swedish hot dog stands to the corner pizzeria, and bustling city markets and cozy cafés serving dishes inspired by far-off places, you will meet a Sweden that honors its past while embracing the global connections of today.

Walk nature trails, explore hidden islands, taste authentic cuisine, and meet community leaders, environmental activists, musicians, historians and regular everyday people who make this country special. Whether you’re reconnecting with your Scandinavian roots or checking Sweden off your bucket list, this journey offers a rare chance to experience the balance of heritage, nature, democracy, and a lively, modern culture — all in one unforgettable adventure!

Journey Highlights:

  • Arrive in Copenhagen, Denmark, and board the train across the bridge to Malmö, Sweden - the start of our 12 day Sweden adventure!

  • Enjoy guided tours of Sweden's "deep South", exploring Swedish-American heritage and Southern Swedish cuisine.

  • Meet with local historians and community leaders to explore the roots of Swedish regional politics.

  • Learn about the Swedish form of democracy, that over the past 100 years have had a strong social democratic influence, that has been both praised and condemned outside of Swedish borders.

  • Enjoy local Swedish and international food, from the traditional Swedish "korvkiosk" (hot dog stands) to high en dining - with vegan and vegetarian options abound!

  • Immerse yourself in the natural environment and elements through guided forest walks, - if weather permits - swim off cliffs, beaches and docks, and take leisurely boat rides into the Stockholm archipelago.

  • Learn from leaders about Sweden's "neutrality", and the reason behind their recent decision and importance to join NATO.

  • Explore Scandinavian and Swedish heritage, and - if you have Swedish roots - have a chance to visit your ancestors communities from Skåne and Småland to Roslagen.

  • Enjoy an introductory exploration circle of Family Constellations (facilitated by Cilla). Discover how hidden threads of your ancestors destiny may still impact your family today

  • Visit local artisans and craft makers in their small galleries and shops.
