Welcome to Ghana where you will reconnect with the cultural and spiritual practices of your Ancestors and have an opportunity to immerse yourself in the dynamic cosmopolitan capital city of Accra and the rich cultures of the Ghanaian people. Transfer from the airport to your hotel. Later, enjoy a welcome dinner at a restaurant where you savor authentic Ghanaian flavors.
Explore the breath-taking Shai Hills Game Reserve and enjoy a 60 minute quad biking experience exploring the savannah terrain where you might get to see some of West Africa’s notable game: antelope, bushbucks, kobs, baboons, monkeys and many bird species, including the crested eagle. Delve into the Obonu Tem and Se Yo caves, home to diverse wildlife including a colony of bats. The bravest can venture into the caves, explore the hill’s peak, once the ancestral home of the Shai people’s king until the late 19th century. Later, relax at the luxurious Royal Senchi Resort, nestled along the picturesque Volta River in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Embark on a scenic hour-long boat ride to admire the iconic Adomi Bridge. Return to Accra after a day filled with adventure and relaxation. As the evening approaches, immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of the Afrofuture Festival, Africa’s premier December event showcasing thriving creative talent from the continent. Experience an electrifying celebration of Ghanaian and African culture through captivating art and fashion installations, live painting sessions, tantalizing African cuisine, and dynamic live performances that have previously featured African superstars like Burna Boy and Davido.
Spend the day at leisure relaxing on the shores, swimming in the ocean and trying out water sports like surfing and many more. Later in the evening enjoy the second day of the Afrofuture festival.
Participate in a Batik making workshop to learn the traditional techniques of batik production using wax and dye to create colorful patterns – to make your own one-of-a-kind fabric. Afterwards, take your two yards of handiwork home to sew into a finished product that will always have a special place in your home or wardrobe.
Afterwards, depart for a sightseeing tour of Accra, the Capital of Ghana. Experience the city’s highlights during this Accra orientation. Travel through the administrative and economic districts of Accra including iconic landmarks such as the refurbished Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, dedicated to the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, and his role in African independence, Black Star/Independence Square. Explore the Arts Center to shop for handmade crafts like drums, masks, African wear and more to take home as souvenirs.
Discover the city’s contemporary art scene by visiting galleries such as dot.ateliers and Gallery 1957, which showcases authentic expressions of African art. If you’re interested in traditional African art, don’t miss the Artists Alliance Gallery, which features a wide range of paintings, sculptures, and textiles from across the continent.
End your tour at the Makola market, Accra’s largest open-air market where you can immerse yourself in the traditional shopping styles in the city. Here you can find diverse traders selling goods from food to electronics and vibrant fabrics.
Explore the Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Choose between a 2 km nature walk through the rain forest to discover the wide variety of exotic flora and fauna species and the medicinal values they offer or take a walk on the canopy walkway hanging 40 meters above the forest ground.
Later embark on a tour of the infamous Forts, Castles, and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. Journey through the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1653 where you would learn about the horrors and conditions enslaved Africans encountered on their journey to the New World during trans-Atlantic slave trade. Walk through the Door of No Return, stand in the slave dungeons and travel through time.
Visit the serene Aburi Botanical Gardens which was created in 1890 for pleasure and scientific research; it is a habitat for plants and butterflies from all around the world. Aburi’s attractive features have been made easier to view with recent additions of rental bicycles for tours on the mountain.
