Batik Making – Accra City Tour – Art Galleries - Makola Market

Participate in a Batik making workshop to learn the traditional techniques of batik production using wax and dye to create colorful patterns – to make your own one-of-a-kind fabric. Afterwards, take your two yards of handiwork home to sew into a finished product that will always have a special place in your home or wardrobe.

Afterwards, depart for a sightseeing tour of Accra, the Capital of Ghana. Experience the city’s highlights during this Accra orientation. Travel through the administrative and economic districts of Accra including iconic landmarks such as the refurbished Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, dedicated to the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, and his role in African independence, Black Star/Independence Square. Explore the Arts Center to shop for handmade crafts like drums, masks, African wear and more to take home as souvenirs.

Discover the city’s contemporary art scene by visiting galleries such as dot.ateliers and Gallery 1957, which showcases authentic expressions of African art. If you’re interested in traditional African art, don’t miss the Artists Alliance Gallery, which features a wide range of paintings, sculptures, and textiles from across the continent.

End your tour at the Makola market, Accra’s largest open-air market where you can immerse yourself in the traditional shopping styles in the city. Here you can find diverse traders selling goods from food to electronics and vibrant fabrics.
