As a volunteer, you'll be part of a dedicated team working closely with the local community to promote turtle conservation. Engage in exciting activities like beach patrols, snorkeling, kayaking, and underwater photography to monitor and protect these endangered creatures.
Enjoy downtime exploring the islands, relaxing on the beach, or simply unwinding in a hammock. This is your chance to create a meaningful experience and make a difference.
Project Aim
The Perhentian Turtle Project (PTP) was officially established in 2015 as a sea turtle research and conservation initiative to better understand and protect the sea turtle populations at the Perhentian Islands.
Typical Weekly Program
Day 1: Arrival and Orientation
Day 2-3: Turtle Identification and Data Analysis
Day 4: Snorkeling Adventure and Night Patrol
Days 5 and 6: Night Patrols and Turtle Conservation
Day 7 or 14: Departure

Snorkel, Fish ID, Kayak And Turtle Photo ID Surveys, Overnight Turtle Beach Patrol, Beach Clean Up, Dinner with local Malay family, Awareness Talks and Educational projects
Volunteers are provided with all daily meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The food in Perhentian consists of simple Malaysian dishes mixed with some Malaysian styled western foods.
The volunteer fee includes roundtrip boat transfer to & from Kuala Besut.
Male and Female dormitory with basic fan and shared bathroom. Private room available upon request.
Government Entry fee to the Perhentian Marine Park
Any transport to and from Kuala Besut should be arranged by the volunteer
* Arrive at Kuala Besut Jetty, Terengganu - 8:00 am
* Boat transfer to Pulau Perhentian Kecil
* Check-in to the Turtle House!
* Project briefing and village tour
* Water confidence session
* Snorkeling tour of famous spots
* Visit Tiga Ruang nesting beach
* Begin two or three-night nesting turtle patrol
* Continue night patrols
* Collect nesting turtle information
* Relocate turtle eggs
* Participate in turtle conservation activities
* Traditional Malay dinner with a local family
* Final project briefing and farewell
* Boat transfer back to Kuala Besut
