About your trip

February & March: Baja Through the Lens | 9-Day Natural History Cruise and Hotel Package

Baja California in late winter is a living gallery, showcasing rare wildlife spectacles and celestial wonders in perfect light.

On the Pacific side, gray whales glide into Magdalena Bay, completing a 22,000-mile migration from the icy Bering Sea to the tranquil lagoons of Baja. Across the peninsula, the Sea of Cortez—revered by Jacques Cousteau as “the world’s aquarium”—teems with life. Gentle juvenile whale sharks filter plankton, various whale species visit to feed and give birth during peak season, schools of mobula rays leap and spin, and pods of dolphins carve silver trails through the sea. Sea lions rest on sun-drenched rocks while countless migratory birds sweep across the skies—every moment is a picture waiting to be captured.

This year, an extraordinary event unfolds above. On March 3, a total lunar eclipse, known as the Blood Moon, will cast a crimson hue over the desert and sea, providing a stunning opportunity for stargazing and astrophotography.

Our "Through the Lens with Jack Roper" retreat is tailored for photographers of all levels. Daily outings offer a blend of creative guidance and unhurried time to compose the perfect shot, whether from a skiff at sunrise or beneath an expansive canopy of stars. Along the way, you'll connect with local communities and learn about the natural history of the youngest and most fertile sea on Earth.

Bring your camera, your curiosity, and your sense of wonder. Baja’s wild beauty awaits your capture—one unforgettable image at a time.

Guests can join the trip as non-photographers, experiencing a natural history and wildlife expedition.

Unleash the explorer in you and join us for an adventure of a lifetime!
