Dreaming of diving with big sharks? The excursion to Bat Islands is perfect for you!
Located in northern Guanacaste, Bat Islands, or Isla Murcielago, is a renowned spot for Advanced Open Water Divers. These islands are protected as a marine reserve, so you’ll be surrounded by a lot of marine life. The big highlight? Bull sharks! From May to September, the conditions are ideal for spotting these impressive sharks. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot the winning combo: bull sharks and manta rays together!
We meet at 6 am at our dive center in Tamarindo. Yes, it’s early, but trust us, it’s worth it for an epic experience! We’ll get you set up with your dive gear, and then we drive to Flamingo Bay. From there, it’s about a 2.5-hour boat ride to the Bat Islands. No need to worry about getting bored, we’ll chat, laugh, and maybe even spot some dolphins or whales along the way.
Once we reach the Bat Islands, it’s time for action! We’ll dive to 30 meters (100 feet) to see the famous bull sharks. Between dives, you will enjoy some snacks and drinks on the boat. After our 3 dives ( 2 dives at Big scare 1 dive at Bajo Negro), we will have lunch before heading back to Tamarindo and should arrive there around 3 pm.
To join the Bat Islands tour, you need to be an Advanced Open Water Diver and be in good health conditions, something you already know if you’re certified 😉 On the day of the dive, make sure to bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, a hat or cap, sunglasses, and, if you have one, your underwater camera to capture those unforgettable moments and impress your family and friends.
