Today we’ll immerse ourselves in the magic of the Sacred Valley—visiting a llama and alpaca farm, exploring the ancient Incan site of Pisac, browsing colorful artisan markets, and marveling at the dramatic Maras salt mines.
Along the way, we’ll pause to enjoy a traditional Andean lunch at a local restaurant in Pisac before heading to our Tierra Vive Valley Sagrado Hotel in the beautiful valley of Urubamba.
Our adventure on the Lares Trek begins today as we leave Urubamba behind and step into the heart of the Andes. We’ll hike past remote villages, vibrant forests and rivers, and herds of alpacas and llamas, surrounded by towering peaks and crisp mountain air. Today’s hike covers approximately 7–8 miles (11–13 km) with an elevation gain of about 2.3K ft (700 m).
By early evening, we’ll arrive at our campsite (altitude approx 12,800 ft or 3900 m)—nestled high in the Andes with breathtaking views in every direction. Our incredible team of local guides, cooks, and horsemen will carry gear, set up camp, and prepare delicious meals so you can fully enjoy the journey without the stress of logistics.
Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek as we climb higher into the Andes, crossing breathtaking landscapes of glacial lakes, rugged peaks, and remote indigenous communities.
We’ll hike approximately 9–10 miles (14–16 km) with an elevation gain of about 2,600 ft (800 m)—a true test of strength and spirit, with unforgettable views as the reward. Our highest altitude will be around 14,800 ft (4500 m).
After descending and completing our trek this day, we’ll transfer to Ollantaytambo, a charming town in the Sacred Valley surrounded by towering mountains and ancient Incan ruins. Tonight, you’ll trade your tent for the comfort of a hotel—showering, resting, and recharging on the incredible accomplishment of the past two days.
This morning we’ll transfer to the train station in Ollantaytambo and ride through the Sacred Valley until we reach Km 104, the starting point of our one-day Inca Trail adventure. From here, we’ll begin an unforgettable hike along ancient stone pathways, passing archaeological sites and cloud forests as we make our way toward the legendary Sun Gate.
After about 7 miles (11 km) with 2,000 ft (600 m) of elevation gain, we’ll arrive at the Sun Gate for a first breathtaking glimpse of Machu Picchu. Experiencing this wonder of the world around golden hour—with fewer crowds and golden light spilling across the ruins—is a moment you’ll never forget.
We’ll then continue down via bus to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town at the base of Machu Picchu, where we’ll enjoy a well-earned dinner together and rest at our hotel in preparation for tomorrow’s early return to the citadel.
Today we rise return in the morning to the legendary citadel of Machu Picchu—arriving in the soft golden light, when the site is at its most magical. With our expert local guides, we’ll explore the mysteries of this ancient wonder, learning its history, legends, and spiritual significance.
For those seeking an extra challenge, there’s the optional hike up Huayna Picchu—a steep, switchback climb of about 2 miles (3.2 km) roundtrip with 1,000 ft (300 m) of elevation gain. This thrilling trail rewards you with sweeping, bird’s-eye views over the citadel and valley below.
Later, we’ll take the scenic train ride back to Ollantaytambo, enjoy dinner in town, and then transfer to Cusco, where you’ll settle into our charming boutique hotel for the night.
After several adventurous days on the trail, today is about slowing down and savoring the vibrant energy of Cusco. You’ll have the morning free to explore at your own pace—whether that’s getting a massage, wandering cobblestone streets, shopping artisan markets in the charming neighborhood of San Blas, or simply relaxing at a café with a view of the Plaza de Armas.
In the afternoon and evening, we’ll split into two groups for an authentic Peruvian cooking class with a local chef. You’ll learn to prepare traditional dishes like ceviche (originated in Peru!) or lomo saltado, discover the secrets of Andean ingredients, and of course, enjoy the delicious results together.
Because of the split schedule, either lunch or dinner will be on your own today—giving you the chance to discover a local restaurant or enjoy a quiet meal at your own pace.
Today we set out for one of Peru’s most iconic natural wonders—Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). After an early morning transfer, we’ll journey high into the Andes with by horseback for most of the climb, making the experience easier and more enjoyable.
From there, it is a short 40 min hike to the summit at nearly 17,000 ft (5,200 m). The summit greets us with the stunning, striped colors of Rainbow Mountain. Back in Cusco, we’ll gather for our final group dinner, celebrating new friendships, unforgettable memories, and the transformative adventure we’ve shared.
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Cusco and begin your journey home. You may arrange your flights to depart at any time today from Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ).
While this marks the end of our adventure together, the memories, friendships, and inner growth will stay with you long after you leave Peru.
