Sometimes my wife ropes me into things I’m skeptical of, and most of the time I’m completely wrong.
This was one of those times.
When I was first presented with the trip to Bali I was like ohh cool we’re gonna go solo and go on our own adventure.
Then She told me it’s a couples trip, I was like a couple trip? Why would we do that? Is this some sort of weird guru thing that I’m not gonna enjoy at all?
I’m not a fan of people planning all the events of my vacation. So that’s where the skeptic in me started
She explained it was the same woman whom she went on her Guatemala trip with. She raved about what a great experience it was, but I was still hesitant to go on a couples vacation.
Who knows what kind of people we were gonna encounter, they could be real stick in the mud types or boring or just not the type of people I’d identify with.
But after a long talk with her and just being open to the idea I said screw it let’s go.
Worst case scenario we don’t do some of the activities and we go off on our own.
I have to say I was so wrong I almost feel a little embarrassed about my preconceived ideas of what it was gonna be.
Nothing and I mean nothing about this trip was what I thought it would be.
First off Christina and her husband Eric are two of the sweetest people I’ve ever met, the most engaging and interesting couple that have literally traveled the world together and with their children at times.
The group flew in to densapar and met up with Christina’s driver Dewa and another driver and we are all taken to our first hotel in Ulawhatu.
A gorgeous set of villas that had their own pools and individual rooms for the couples awaited us. With a central area we all could meet up for meals and discussions of what activities we were all gonna do together.
Our first meeting we all got introduced to each other and I was instantly taken by everyone. Couples from all over the country some from Texas some from Utah.
Everyone of them unique and sweet from day one.
My main hope was that we all would get along and have fun together and that’s exactly what happened.
Christina spares no expense and quality for each and everything we did.
We surfed, we went to temples, we shopped, we took in an amazing fire dance, we hung out with crazy monkeys that if you’re not careful could steal your phone or hat off your head.
One of our travel mates was lucky enough to recover her phone after a sneaky monkey grabbed it, luckily a local lady used to dealing with the monkies bartered with it to retrieve the phone in exchange for some candy lol, we saw every inch of the surrounding areas and that was all in the first few days
What followed blew my mind completely outta my head
Five star hotels that featured gorgeous rooms and restaurants
Water rafting, ATV riding, waterfall hikes, a very intimate couples photo shoot at sunrise in the rice fields.
E biking in another area with rice fields. All the while tasting the local flavors of Bali. The food was phenomenal and country was gorgeous but the company was even better.
By mid week felt like I was on a trip with an extended family.
We all bonded quickly and got to know each other and all about each others families we laughed together, told stories, compared our experiences as we lived them on this trip and looked forward to the next day.
And this again is only within the first few days.
Once we had done a million and one things in Bali we set off for the portion of the trip I was most excited for which was a three night four day boat ride around the Komodo islands to snorkel and see Komodo dragons.
You wanna feel like a kid again the excitement I felt was incredible to see every fish, coral and turtle and of course Komodo dragons has always been a childhood dream of mine and I ate it up from the moment I awoke to the minute I passed out each night from so much activity.
Looking forward to the next day’s excursions with Christmas morning excitement everyday is not something you get to live all the time.
The boat was gorgeous the food and the crew were incredible and I can’t again say enough about our travel companions.
After the boat trip we headed back to laman Bajo to finish up the trip at another beautiful hotel that overlooked the ocean
Our last night there was like leaving summer camp I was a little sad to see it end so quick and to say goodbye to all our new friends. But knowing that someday we will all see each other again hopefully sooner than later.
In short if you’re having second thoughts or any sort of doubt.
Put it away and trust that you’re in excellent hands with a person that goes way up and beyond any expectations you may have.
Christina and Eric will forever live in my heart and I truly can’t wait to go on future adventures with them.
My wife and I are already planning on another trip with them in 2027.
Thank you Christina and Eric for an epic trip ❤️
