Take a day trip to see the last Inca rope bridge! Q’eswachaka is the last woven Inca bridge that can still be visited today. Made of woven grass, this Inca bridge is recreated by hand every year. You can see this ancient cultural tradition in practice, or simply visit the Q’eswachaka bridge and walk across an Inca rope bridge!
This is an absolutely unique Cusco day tour. The Qeswachaka bridge is located in Canas province and spans the Apurimac river at an altitude of about 3900m (13,000 ft). This handwoven grass bridge spans 120 feet, and is rebuilt every one or two years as a communal effort by all the local people of the region.
About 700 men and women form the communities of Huinchiri and Ccollana come to Q’eswachaka to celebrate the construction of the bridge. The final day of the fiesta is the second Sunday in June, where you can see typical dances and walk across the completed Qeswachaka bridge. You can also visit the bridge site in the days preceding, to see the bridge-building in progress.
The weaving and construction techniques have passed from generation to generation since the Q’eswachaka bridge was first built by the Incas. It is the only remaining example of an Inca suspension bridge that can be seen today!
