I have participated in several retreats and trainings with Joan Hyman over the past couple of years and can recommend the experience to anybody who is committed to deepening their practice. Especially in this 10-day training, we were able to deconstruct aspects of the practice that you generally don't have so much time for: how to access and use the bandhas, meditation and restorative practices, and the use of the chair and other props to adapt and modify your practice. I have a lot more tools available now to make my practice and teachings available to a variety of students. Tina, who organised this training, did a fantastic job: she is meticulous, easily approachable in case of questions and just fun to be around. The Soami Retreat Center lends itself very well to this training due to its remote location and the peace & quiet that supports the inward journey. Already looking forward to the next training with Joan!

The Training with Joan and Tina was amazing! The Venue was perfect and the group was full of wonderful people. Joan is an experienced teacher, who really sees her students as they are. She helped us evolve in our practice and gave great lectures about Yoga anatomy/sequencing, Philosophy and Ayurveda. Tinas organization was awesome, we had all the information we needed before and during the stay - with her warm nature, she helped everyone feel at home. Thank you for this inspiring time! :)

Joan and Tina created a life-changing experience during this 10 day retreat and training at SOAMI. Joan's excellent teaching and beautiful spirit gathered a wonderful group of people to this training, and we felt so lucky to be there. From Joan's expert instruction to Tina's expert scheduling of each day, we were given endless opportunities to practice and study, explore, and forge new friendships.
SOAMI, and the surrounding nature, was breathtaking. We began our days waking to the singing birds and hiking to the cold plunge waterfall, and often returned to the trails and river when the afternoon sun got too warm. And each day we were nourished by Hildegard's incredible meals at SOAMI. Accommodations are impeccable and luxuriously simple, and evening sauna sessions or walks through the village were our favorite ways to end the day.
Thank you to everyone we were lucky enough to meet on this trip. Thank you Joan, Tina, and SOAMI for making this all possible.

We were able to experience a transformative time in the midst of nature in the Austrian Alps. The organisation of the Teacher Training by Tina was superb, the accommodation was great, the participants from all over the world heart-warming. We came as strangers and left as friends. Joan is a great teacher who teaches with a lot of patience, precision and warmth. Her many years of experience make her a very accomplished teacher. Many thanks to everyone who made these 10 days what they are. An unforgettable memory and the anticipation of further trainings or retreats with Joan

Joan and I have known each other for a while; she is a yoga teacher, and I am her student. I am aware of the context of yoga philosophy and the Sanskrit term Aparigraha, " no attachment." which encourages not being overly attached to outcomes, etc., or even relationships; however, it is very challenging for me not to be "attached" to Joan. She is one of the best Yoga teachers in Los Angeles and one of my favorites. She is knowledgeable about her craft and exudes kindness everywhere she goes. Always with a smile. A one-hour vinyasa class with her is not for the faint of heart.
Additionally, she is my "personal Waldo," as I constantly try to keep track of her whereabouts during her yoga retreats around the world; however, this time, I was able to participate in one of her retreats in Nepal- 14 days of yoga and trekking-amazing teacher and beautiful Country. When she is in Los Angeles, she teaches at the Center for Yoga studio in Larchmont.
