About this trip

The Yoga House Koh Phan Ngan Thailand

Excellence in education in the lap of luxury.

Nestled in the jungle of Koh Phan Ngan island, known as the Crystal Island as the island is formed of quartz and rose quartz minerals, the Yoga House is a traditional Thai-Style home in the heart of the jungle minutes from several villages, the main city center, and numerous stunning beaches.

The Yoga House provides on-site vegan and vegetarian meals with a middle-eastern twist. Walking distance from the house is a fabulous Thai restaurant and homemade ice-cream shop.

The Yoga House is just far enough away to feel secluded and yet minutes from everything you could need.

This 16 day Intensive (15 nights, 16 days), Yoga Alliance approved, 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is a foundational training rooted in the lineages of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga.  This Yoga Alliance certified training will provide participants with the knowledge, practice, and experience to become creative, competent, and inspiring teachers.

The training is open to all, both those inspiring to become the next generation of dynamic teachers as well as to those simply wishing to immerse themselves in the practice of yoga. Those with injuries and health issues are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Students will be able to perform or guide a student into various asana (postures). Additionally, for each posture participants will know the safety precautions, modifications, contraindications, the proper alignment of the pose, and will feel confident offering hands-on-adjustments.

Pranayama: Effectively guide and practice various traditional pranayama exercise and effectively link movement with breath.

Bandhas: Understand the bandhas and how to apply them in their own practice as well as their student's.

Students should feel comfortable guiding a basic meditation practice and cultivating awareness and movement as meditation through a guided asana practice.

Students will be familiar with the 8 limbs of yoga and the ethical principles of yoga (the yamas and the niyamas). They will have a basic understanding of the history of  modern yoga. They will be familiar with the classic yogic texts. Additionally, students will learn how to live a yogic lifestyle, taking their yoga off of their mats and into their day-to-day lives.

Students will be able to correctly identify the primary bones and muscles of the body. They will understand movement principles and how to prevent injury. Students will also have a basic understanding of the yoga energetic body (the chakras, nadis, and koshas).

Graduating teachers will feel comfortable leading a group, all-levels class. Students will be comfortable with sequencing, cueing, and leading. They will be able to guide students safely through a 60-minute alignment-based vinyasa class.

Students will grow their personal practice, develop their voice, and deepen their connection. They will learn to lead and to support their fellow teachers and community members.

SELENA GAREFINO E-RYT, MPH, PHD CANDIDATE Selena Garefino is the co-founder of Sarva Rasa Yoga. She began practicing yoga when she was 13 years old. Yoga has been and continues to be for Selena, a vehicle for learning to shift from habitual emotional and behavior tendencies towards serving highest possibility. Selena completed her first vinyasa training with Core Power Yoga. She went on to study with Sarah Powers, Melina Meza, Anne Phyfe, Nicolai Bachman, Elena Brower, and Noah Mazé. She has studied Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Pre-natal and Postpartum Yoga, Vinyasa, and Hatha Yoga. Selena is dedicated to teaching movement through artful alignment to support her students on and off of their mats. Her classes offer yoga and meditation as a mechanism to shift the way we offer ourselves in all aspects of our lives and as a tool for granting profound healing in our bodies, our hearts, and ultimately our relationships. The training with Sarva Rasa Yoga surpassed all expectation i had... the teachers are amazing! I would recommend anyone looking to develop a base for teaching or to develop their own practice further to look at Sarva Rasa and they will not disappoint. The training was intensive, but the learning and development will last a lifetime!

Selena is an energetic, knowledgeable and passionate teacher of yoga. She has an exceptional teaching style that is inclusive, patient, captivating and extremely well organized. Her curriculum is far reaching and demanding. I truly am amazed at her wealth of knowledge and feel fortunate that the universe led me to her. I would whole heartedly recommend Selena's programs to anyone wishing to teach yoga or broaden their understanding of this amazing spiritual journey.

I took my first class from Selena almost two years ago, and I still remember it. Why? Because during that class I had this moment like, "hell yeah" - I found my teacher. Since that first class, I've taken dozens of classes from Selena and every time, I walk away with a bit more... A bit more knowledge, awareness, spark, spunk, love, breath, understanding... every time, I walk away feeling a bit more alive. My asana practice has grown and benefited from Selena's mindful sequencing and every other part of my yoga practice (and life) has grown and benefited from knowing her. Selena is an amazing teacher. She's knowledgeable on every level you could want. She has soul and spirit. She is honest and raw. She's freaking witty and hilarious. She shows up and requires that you show up for yourself. More importantly than being an amazing teacher, Selena is one of the best people that I know. Anyone is lucky to cross paths with this wonderful human and I highly recommend that you do.
