Ananda Maya Ashram is home in the mystical greenlands of Guatemala, a land full of rainforests, volcanoes, and an ancient Mayan history. Here, you can learn all about the practical, theoretical, philosophical, and historical side of yoga.
The course places a strong emphasis on the practical aspects of yoga. Daily workshops will help you understand the core elements of asana, anatomy, and physiology. You'll learn technical, practical, and safe methods for practicing and teaching each pose. Including their contraindications, how to use props effectively, and their physical and mental benefits. Each student will have the opportunity to teach classes and receive constructive feedback from Dada.
Meditation is an essential aspect of the course as well. Every day, there will be several meditation and kiirtan sessions, allowing you to cultivate a deeper connection with yourself and your practice.
Dada will be the lead teacher. In addition to Dada's four years of intensive yogic training to become Acarya Avadhuta (Yoga Monk), Dada holds an ERYT 500.
He has been a yoga and meditation trainer for over 30 years and has been training yoga teachers since 2001. In 2007, he started the Ananda Marga Yoga Academy in Singapore that in 2010 received the status as a college. The curriculum and the teaching methods in this 200-hr course are in essence the same as what Dada taught in Singapore.
For over 20 years, Narayani has been dedicated to yoga, both as a passion and profession. As a certified 500-hour ERYT yoga instructor, she offers classes, workshops, and teacher training globally. Teaching yoga is a passion and natural extension of her lifestyle.
In 2006, her travels led her to Sayulita, Mexico, where she felt inspired to bring her vision to life. Here, she established the renowned Paraiso Yoga.
As a Reiki Master and Thai Massage therapist, she integrates these skills into her practice, enriching her students' experiences.
Nara will be teaching the Yoga Anatomy, Haha and Sequencing.
Yoga theory
To better grasp the essence of yoga, we need to understand the theory behind it. Daily lectures will explain the yoga system from a scientific point of view, which is presented systematically and logically. You will learn about yoga anatomy, physiology and discover in detail the eight limbs of Raja Yoga. And very importantly, we will study yoga psychology; the chakra system and its relation to the glandular system, the nervous system, the pranic system, and the vrittis (mental propensities) of each chakra.
Generally speaking, yoga philosophy deals with factors that science still can’t explain to this day. This includes concepts such as individual and cosmic consciousness, karma and samskara, life, death, and reincarnation, to mention a few. These classes are very popular and will be presented logically and rationally from a spiritual rather then a religious point of view.
To help us understand the evolution, direction, and goal of the profound science of yoga, we will also look at its history. We will spotlight prominent personalities who have had great influence on yoga and tantra, from Shiva, Krishna, and Patanjali to the Nath yogis who developed Hatha yoga, but also modern yogis like Krisnamacarya and his students, to modern-day tantric guru Shrii Shrii Anandamurti. Here we will also study classical yogic texts such as the Patanjali Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and the modern tantric text on cosmology; the Ananda Sutram.
The style of asana taught will be Classical Hatha Yoga. This style emphasizes poses that develop our tissues, organs, nerves, and glands. Each pose is practiced systematically with a fixed set of repetitions and incorporated deep breathing techniques. These poses were specially developed for controlling the vrittis (mental propensities) and the various emotions that disturb our mind and mediation. In addition, you will learn how to practice and teach yoga dances like Kaoshikii and Tandava.
