Event Overview: The Come to Galapagos Marathon is a private event for international runners, taking place in the stunning Galapagos Islands. In a unique twist, each international participant sponsors a local runner, covering their entrance fee as part of the tour package. The event is not just about the race; it's a celebration of community, culture, and camaraderie.


Race Options: Participants can choose from three exciting race options:

  1. Marathon
  2. Half Marathon
  3. 10K

Support System: Every marathon runner is assigned a personal caddy, who follows them on a small scooter or truck. This dedicated support team ensures that you have everything you need during the race, from water to Gatorade. The caddy system offers flexibility, allowing family members or friends to join in for specific segments of the race, creating unforgettable shared moments.


Event Oversight: The event is overseen by the Come to Galapagos family, including hotel owners, farm workers, restaurant staff, fishermen, and Galapagos Park guides. All proceeds from the event contribute to the well-being of the local community.


Culinary Delights: Meals on San Cristobal feature locally caught fish, fresh produce, fruits, cheeses, and yogurt. Participants may even have the opportunity to catch their own fish for a truly immersive culinary experience.


Travel Details:

  • Multiple destination options for flights, with arrivals in Guayaquil and San Cristobal.
  • Carefully plan your flights, considering the tour dates and connecting flights. Additional "add-ons" may have different flight arrangements.
  • A deposit of half the tour cost secures your spot, with final payment due 75 days before your tour date.

Travel Insurance: It's highly recommended to purchase travel insurance, considering potential changes in-country requirements. The Come to Galapagos team recommends Travel Insurance Center for comprehensive coverage.

  • Upon arrival in San Cristobal, you'll be greeted by the warm and welcoming faces of your Galapagos National Park guides and marathon coordinators. These knowledgeable and friendly individuals will be your primary contacts and guides throughout the event.

Midday: Welcome Lunch and Orientation

  • After settling in a bit, join the group for a welcome lunch. This is a perfect opportunity to meet fellow runners, share stories, and build camaraderie.
  • Post-lunch, engage in a comprehensive orientation session. Here, you'll receive important information about the marathon, including route details, safety guidelines, and environmental conservation practices.
  • Complete your race registration during this time, ensuring you're all set for the big event.

  • Attend a brief pre-race meeting. Here, you'll receive final instructions, check your gear, and meet your personal caddy if you haven't already.
  • Warm-up exercises led by professional trainers to get you ready for the run.

Morning: Marathon and Half Marathon Start

  • Both races kick off from the same starting line. The start time is carefully chosen to ensure minimal sun exposure and optimal running conditions.

Midday: The Finish Line and Celebrations

Good morning! Today, after the exhilarating experience of the marathon, we have planned a gentle, recovery day filled with unique and insightful activities. This day is designed to be light on your feet while offering a deeper understanding of the Galapagos Islands' culture, ecology, and local life.


Morning: Communing with Giant Tortoises

  • Start your day with a leisurely breakfast.
  • Depart for the Giant Tortoise Reserve. This visit allows you to walk among these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
  • Enjoy the serene environment and learn about conservation efforts to protect these iconic giants of the Galapagos.

Mid-Morning: Visit to Local Farms

  • Continue to local farms, the source of much of the fresh produce you've been enjoying.
  • Discover various crops such as bananas, bamboo, papaya, and guavas. Gain insights into sustainable farming practices in the unique ecosystem of the Galapagos.
  • Learn about our pioneering program with local farmers, which ensures they have a secure market for their produce, fostering a sustainable and self-sufficient community.

Lunch: Farm-to-Table Experience

Good morning, adventurers! Day 7 of our Galapagos Marathon Tour Package promises an extraordinary experience as we embark on a chartered boat trip to the mesmerizing Tuneles. This hidden gem of the Galapagos Islands is renowned for its unique geological formations and abundant wildlife, both in and out of the water. Prepare for an awe-inspiring day as we explore one of the archipelago's greatest natural wonders.


Morning: Departure and Scenic Journey

  • 7:00 AM: Gather at the designated meeting point for a brief orientation.
  • 7:30 AM: Set sail from the harbor on our chartered boat, enjoying fresh morning breezes and the rising sun. Keep your cameras ready for the stunning seascapes and possible dolphin sightings.
  • 9:00 AM: Light breakfast onboard. Enjoy local fruits and refreshments as we cruise.

Mid-Morning: Arrival at Tuneles

  • 10:00 AM: Arrival at Tuneles. Witness the breathtaking beauty of the area's volcanic rock formations, arches, and tunnels carved by the sea.
  • 10:30 AM: Guided snorkeling session. Dive into the crystal-clear waters to explore the vibrant underwater world, home to a variety of marine life including sea turtles, rays, and colorful fish.

Lunch and Leisure Time

  • 12:30 PM: Return to the boat for a lunch featuring local delicacies. Relax on deck, sunbathe, or engage in casual conversation with fellow travelers.
  • 1:30 PM: Free time to explore. Take a leisurely swim, snap photos of the stunning landscape, or simply enjoy the tranquility of this secluded paradise.

Afternoon: Wildlife Exploration

  • 2:30 PM: Guided walk along the coastline. Discover the unique flora and fauna of the Galapagos. Keep an eye out for blue-footed boobies, iguanas, and other endemic wildlife.
  • 4:00 PM: Afternoon tea and snacks on the boat, as we discuss the day's sightings and experiences.

Evening: Return Journey and Relaxation

Hike to Volcano Sierra Negra and Lunch in the Highlands

    • Begin your day with an energizing breakfast at your hotel, preparing for an adventurous hike to one of the most impressive natural wonders of the Galapagos, the Sierra Negra Volcano.
    • Depart from the hotel at 8:00 AM, heading towards the volcano. The journey to the starting point of the hike itself offers scenic views and opportunities to observe the unique Galapagos wildlife.
    • The hike to Sierra Negra, known for having one of the largest volcanic craters in the world, is a moderate trek that rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views. The landscape varies from lush vegetation to stark, volcanic terrain.
    • Along the way, your guide will share insights about the volcano’s geology, as well as the flora and fauna of the area. Keep an eye out for the Galapagos Hawk and the endemic short-eared owl.

Day 9: From Isabela to Guayaquil (Aug 10 / Oct 19)

  • Early Start: Begin your day with an early breakfast before heading to the port.
  • Commuter Boat Ride: Board the commuter boat for a scenic trip from Isabela to Baltra. This journey offers a final chance to enjoy the ocean vistas and perhaps spot some marine life.

Arrival at Baltra

  • Transfer to Airport: Once you arrive at Baltra, proceed to the airport for your return flight. This is an opportunity to reflect on the experiences you've had in the Galapagos.

Flight to Guayaquil

  • Boarding Flight: After check-in and security procedures, board your flight to Guayaquil. As you fly over the archipelago, savor the aerial views of the islands.
