About your trip

Gatehouse of Fleet, the perfect centre for a Gravel Hub, is a small picturesque town in the heart of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere.

The Fleet Valley, a National Scenic Area for an outstanding landscape – which encompasses the Fleet Valley from the wild moorland at the top of the valley to the estuary with its fine beaches and rocky shores.

Gatehouse is an 18th century planned town and is remarkably well preserved with most of its historical features easily viewed. There are several great cafes and a few lovely shops.

We partner with the best of hotels, B&Bs. 

You can ride out along the coast, into the hills or a bit of both. Every day you get to pick from a range of 10, 20, 30, 40 mile or further rides.

Luggage Transfers

As you will stay in one place, Luggage transfer is not needed.

Maps and GPX

We will supply you with maps, route sheets and GPX files.

Bike setup

If you choose to rent bikes from us, we will set them up with you. Helmets, bike bags, bike kit are included. Feel free to bring your own pedals and saddles.

Pickup from stations

We can pick you up from the train or bus stations at Dumfries/ Lockerbie. We will also bring you back to the stations.

What's not included

Lunch and Dinners

Lunch and dinners are not included. We are happy to recommend and reserve tables for you.

Entry fees

Entry fees to visitor attractions are not included.

Day 1

Arrival and Welcome

We will introduce you to the routes and make sure all is well. Depending on when you arrive, you could do your first little tour, perhaps to the Gatehouse of Fleet viaduct.

Day 2

Day 2 image

A loop through hills and along the coast

Taking the road into the hills above Gatehouse toward Laurieston From there to the quick town of Kirkcudbright for some coffee and cake. Back along road and gravel along the beautiful shores of Carrick and Cally Woods.

Day 3

Day 3  image

Raiders Road

The route goes into hills and its magical lochs and rivers. You cycle along an old railway made famous in the classic Spy book and movie : The Thirty-Nine steps, as well as an old droving path, now in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Clatteringsshaws and Kirroughtree

This route offers amazing views, not just from the hills or looking up to Cairnsmore of Fleet, but also across the beautiful Loch Clatteringshaws.

Coffee stop is in the Kirroughtree MTB visitor centre before you head over the "Mast ride" along an old Roman road in Anwoth at the back of Gatehouse, or come back via the road on the National Cycle Route 7.
