Chimborazo Wildlife Refuge & Devil's Nose Hike

We continue our journey as we travel south from Riobamba toward Cuenca, surrounded by Ecuador’s dramatic Andean landscapes. Our adventure begins at Chimborazo, the country’s tallest peak and the closest point on Earth to the sun. Here, we’ll enjoy a short hike in the Chimborazo Wildlife Reserve, where wild vicuñas roam against the backdrop of the snowcapped volcano. Next, we head to the legendary Devil’s Nose Mountain, where we’ll hike along scenic trails that reveal sweeping canyon breathtaking views and the engineering feats once linked to Ecuador’s historic railway. We end the day driving into Cuenca, ready to discover one of Ecuador’s most beautiful colonial cities on the next stage of our journey.

Cuenca Walking City Tour - Cajas National Park - Transfer to Guayaquil

We begin with a half-day walking tour through Cuenca’s UNESCO-listed historic center, where cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and landmarks such as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the colorful flower market reveal the city’s cultural charm. From there, we continue to Cajas National Park for a hike in the Toreadora area, exploring its moorlands, glacial lakes, and the unique polylepis forest before enjoying a traditional Andean lunch at the renowned Dos Chorreras Restaurant. In the afternoon, the journey descends from the highlands to Guayaquil, offering a seamless transition from the serene Andes to Ecuador’s vibrant coastal gateway.
