I cannot say enough good things about Baja Wild Encounters! They are excellent about making sure we approach every encounter respectfully, observing the marine life from the boat first before dropping in, and leaving when the wildlife are not that into us. I’m not the strongest swimmer at present, and the guides always made me feel totally safe and comfortable when we were in the water. It was also great knowing they were taking videos so we didn’t have to think about that unless we wanted to, enabling us be more present in the moment. I booked multiple tours with them during my week in Baja, recommended them to others while we were there, and would absolutely go with them again and again!! The guides and captains were all amazing and did an outstanding job sharing the magic of this special place with all of us! Top tier vibes all the way!!! 🐬🐋🦭🐟🫍🪸🦈🐡🫶🏽🤩💜

I joined this expedition as a solo traveler and spent over $5,000 once flights and transportation were included. While there were some positives, the overall experience did not match the level of quality, communication, and attention to detail I expected at this price point. The highlights were the excellent food, beautiful Baja scenery, and meeting some nice new people. Unfortunately, several issues impacted my experience. Before booking, I specifically asked about the bed setup in the shared rooms and was told they were queen beds. Upon arrival, they were actually twin beds placed very close together. Another solo traveler had initially been assigned a private room while I was assigned a shared room despite paying the same price (or less, as she was a returning guest). Although the room assignments were eventually changed, the situation could have been avoided with clearer communication from the start. Communication before the trip was lacking overall. There was little information about the daily schedule, amount of time spent on the boat, downtime, meals, or what to expect. Most days involved 8–9 hours actively searching for wildlife, and within an hour of getting back to the villa attending 2-3 hour dinners (3 of which were at restaurants outside of the villa). This was much more intense than I anticipated. I also experienced issues with guide professionalism, house maintenance, and cleanliness that felt out of place for a premium-priced expedition. There were some positive aspects to the week, but overall I left feeling disappointed and that the experience did not provide the value I expected for the cost.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Christy. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the food, chef, small group experience, Baja scenery, wildlife opportunities, and that you felt concerns raised during the trip were addressed promptly. We also appreciate that you say that your disappointment was not related to the lack of orca encounters. Wildlife is unpredictable, which is why we make it clear throughout our booking process, application form, waiver, and pre-trip information that sightings can never be guaranteed. There are a couple of points where we agree we could have done better. Prior to the trip, you were incorrectly informed that the shared room contained queen beds. Once this was raised on arrival, we moved you into a private room and apologised for the mistake. We also recognise there is always room to improve how we communicate expectations. However, extensive pre-trip communication did take place, including WhatsApp conversations, detailed trip information, phone calls, and discussions about the nature of the expedition. Prior to booking, we specifically advised that days would involve approximately 8 hours per day on the water and that wildlife expeditions are dynamic and dependent on conditions. This is a wildlife expedition in a remote part of Baja, not a resort holiday. Every guest completes an application confirming they understand that schedules can change, conditions can be unpredictable, and that remote locations can present challenges outside of our direct control. Although guests stay in a beautiful beachfront villa with a private chef and premium amenities, we are still operating in a small desert village with limited infrastructure. Water, electricity, and service issues can occasionally occur. When the hot water issue was reported, we immediately brought in a plumber and worked repeatedly to resolve it. Regarding the comments about guide professionalism and guest engagement, we take this feedback seriously. Our guides worked long days, regularly checked in with guests, provided support when needed, and did their best to create safe, enjoyable, and respectful wildlife encounters. In your personal case, additional assistance was provided in the water during the first few days to help build confidence in open-water conditions. All guests confirm before joining that they can swim at least 300m independently in open water, including challenging conditions. Despite this requirement not being met, our guides still provided extra support to you whenever needed. Whenever concerns were raised during the expedition, they were addressed as quickly as possible. Beyond the related concerns already discussed, no concerns regarding guide attitude, professionalism, or guest engagement were raised with management during the trip despite regular check-ins. We work hard to include strong value within the expedition price, including a private beachfront villa, private chef, all meals including dinners, small group sizes, Starlink-equipped boats, experienced guides, and additional activities. Many similar expeditions charge comparable prices while offering fewer inclusions or charging separately for these extras. We appreciate the feedback and have reviewed areas where we can continue improving guest communication and expectation setting. We wish you all the best in your future travels. Jamie

We had an amazing day seeing so many ocean creatures. I felt safe and comfortable swimming with my guide Alexandra as we enjoyed the mobula rays, sea lions, dolphins and exploring the coral reefs. A fantastic must do activity and great for families!

The perfect trip doesn’t exis…..but WAIT! Oh, YES! it does! Baja Wild Encounters really delivered- and not just an ecotour, but an experience. The adventure and the wildlife were as much the main event as the hospitality-the people, the amazing food (prepared fresh daily by local chefs ) and of course, the cliffside beachfront accommodations! I journeyed to Baja California Sur to join the 8 day mobula ray expedition with Baja Wild Encounters and it went above and beyond my expectations! I found Baja Wild Encounters on Instagram and was immediately wowed by the amount and biodiversity of wildlife they featured on their Instagram account. I can tell you it’s just as amazing in person as it is online because we not only saw mobula rays but also orcas, blue whales, dolphins and many others-including some rare encounters like the dwarf sperm whale! We even dropped a hydrophone in the water to listen to sperm whales. Very cool! All of the guides were very knowledgeable and respectful of the animals we were viewing and their environment, with an emphasis on viewing them on their terms. We spent 5 days on the boat, but when not on the boat we enjoyed world class family-style meals, chilled by the pool or fire, visited local restaurants, and did some exploring -one of the side excursions was a night SUP with lights looking for wildlife that’s active at night. And it wouldn’t be complete without some 2000s Usher Karaoke, but Jamie can tell you more about that! Really, this trip was a breath of fresh air -8 hrs a day of it to be exact while cruising around the Sea of Cortez. It’s better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times so book this trip! All you need is a sense of adventure... and a wetsuit!
