Day 1, Mon Oct 26th : Arrival Day + Transfer to Hotel + Vaquería de las Ánimas
Welcome to Mérida! Upon arrival, you’ll transfer to your hotel and settle in before experiencing your first cultural activity of the journey.
In the evening, attend the Vaquería de las Ánimas, a traditional Yucatán folk dance and music celebration with a Día de los Muertos twist. This local event brings together music, dance, and regional costumes, where participants dress as Catrinas and Calaveras, blending iconic Día de los Muertos imagery with traditional vaquero culture.
It’s a vibrant introduction to Yucatán’s cultural heritage and a meaningful way to begin your Día de los Muertos experience in Mérida.
Day 2, Tue Oct 27th: Cenotes Santa Bárbara
Spend the day exploring Cenotes Santa Bárbara, a collection of beautiful cenotes located in the heart of Yucatán. Surrounded by nature, these crystal-clear sinkholes offer the perfect setting to swim, relax, and experience one of the region’s most iconic natural wonders.
Discover the unique beauty of each cenote as you enjoy a refreshing escape from the city and learn about the cultural and environmental significance of these sacred water sources, which played an important role in ancient Maya life.
After a day immersed in nature, return to Mérida with time to relax before continuing your Día de los Muertos journey.
Day 3, Wed Oct 28th: Merida City Tour + Flavors after dark: Local snacks tour
Start your day with a guided tour of Mérida, visiting iconic landmarks such as Plaza Grande, the Catedral de San Ildefonso, and Paseo de Montejo. Along the way, learn about the city’s history, culture, and architecture.
After the tour, enjoy a few hours at leisure to relax, explore Mérida at your own pace, visit local shops or cafés, or return to your hotel before your evening experience begins.
Later, join Flavors After Dark, a guided culinary experience featuring local beers and beloved Yucatecan specialties such as elotes, churros, marquesitas, ice cream, and more. As the city comes alive after sunset, discover local gathering spots and experience the flavors that are part of everyday life in Mérida.
Day 4, Thu Oct 29th : Mérida Cooking Class – Day of the Dead Edition
Immerse yourself in the flavors and traditions of Yucatán through a special Día de los Muertos cooking class. During this hands-on experience, you’ll prepare traditional dishes associated with this important celebration while learning about their cultural significance and role in honoring loved ones.
As part of the experience, you’ll also help create a traditional ofrenda (altar), decorated with meaningful elements that form part of this cherished Mexican tradition. Guests are welcome to bring a photo of a loved one or a beloved pet, to place on the altar in remembrance.
This unique experience offers a meaningful way to connect with Yucatán’s culinary heritage and the traditions that make Día de los Muertos one of Mexico’s most treasured celebrations.
Day 5, Fri Oct 30th: Uxmal Archaeological Zone + Paseo de las Ánimas
Begin the day exploring Uxmal, one of the most important archaeological sites of the ancient Maya civilization and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover its impressive architecture, including the iconic Pyramid of the Magician, while learning about the history, beliefs, and achievements of the people who built this remarkable city.
In the evening, experience the magic of Paseo de las Ánimas, one of Yucatán’s most iconic Día de los Muertos traditions. Join locals as they honor their loved ones through candlelit processions, traditional attire, music, and cultural performances, creating a memorable celebration of remembrance and community.
Day 6, Sat Oct 31st: Hacienda Sotuta de Peón + Desfile de Catrinas
Visit Hacienda Sotuta de Peón, one of Yucatán’s most iconic historic haciendas. Discover the history of the henequen industry, once known as the region’s “green gold,” and learn how this agave fiber shaped the economy, culture, and development of Yucatán. Explore the grounds and gain insight into a way of life that defined an important chapter of the region’s history.
Later, experience the vibrant Desfile de Catrinas, one of the most anticipated Día de los Muertos celebrations in Mérida. Watch as thousands of participants dressed as elegant Catrinas and Calaveras fill the streets in a colorful procession that blends art, tradition, music, and community spirit in honor of loved ones who have passed.
Day 7, Sun Nov 1st: Bye Mexico – Departure Transfer
After breakfast and hotel check-out, transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
