About this trip

Escape with Andy Bertilrud to Lake Atitlan, a magical crater lake located in the heart of Guatemala. This retreat will provide you with the perfect opportunity to invest in yourself and celebrate your uniqueness, as well as explore a remote and sacred part of the world that will open your heart and your perspective to what could be.

What can you expect on this retreat?

Our journey begins with an overnight stay in the colonial city of Antigua, where our community will gather and connect for the first time. You'll have time to explore the unique architecture, rooftop bars & restaurants, and boutiques of Antigua prior to meeting up for a welcome dinner that evening. We highly recommend coming in a night early, if you can, to enjoy even more time in this city!

On day 2, we will make our way to Lomas de Tzununa, a lakefront hotel with a relaxing vibe, and stunning views of Lake Atitlan. Once there, you will have ample opportunity to experience the Mayan culture of Lake Atitlan, connect with nature, practice yoga in community, and create your own adventure.

Our time together will include daily, optional, yoga, meditation and breathwork classes with Andy, locally sourced meals, two included cultural and adventure-driven excursions, and plenty of time for you to relax and recharge amongst the stunning hillside grounds of Lomas de Tzununa and Lake Atitlan.  Our retreat center features an on-site pool, temazcal sauna, and restaurant / lounge area, all available for you to enjoy!

Outdoor lovers will have ample opportunity to partake in many activities throughout our week including: kayaking, hiking, stand up paddle boarding, horseback riding, zip lining, and paragliding, to name a few. Cultural activities include local cooking, weaving, and beading classes. Boat rides are readily available to visit neighboring Mayan villages where you can enjoy local foods, markets, and some of the best textile and arts shopping in Central America.

Come experience Guatemala with Andy and an amazing group of humans. This week will change your life, if you let it. ;)

About Lake Atitlan

Lake Atitlan is a magical, 50 square mile, crater lake located in south-east Guatemala. At its deepest point, it’s over 1,100 feet! It’s approximately a 3.5 hour drive from Guatemala City and 2 hours from the beautiful colonial city of Antigua. Surrounded by majestic volcanoes and cultural Mayan villages, Lake Atitlan is the perfect place to disconnect, explore, and open your heart and perspective to what could be.

The climate at Lake Atitlan is also perfection, and incredibly complimentary for yoga classes, as well as outdoor adventuring. From January - April, daytime highs average a comfortable 75 - 80 degrees. Evenings are cooler, with temperatures in the low 60’s / high 50’s, perfect for sleeping. At a mile high in altitude, warm days of swimming and exploring are followed by cool nights in flannels by the fire, or relaxing in the wood-fired sauna.

Nature lovers will be overjoyed with the many outdoor activities available. From volcano hiking, to sunrise kayak and stand-up paddle boarding, to horseback mountain rides and zip lining tours, there’s ample opportunity to connect with and enjoy this incredible land.

When you aren’t immersing yourself in nature, there’s plenty of Mayan Culture to soak in! Lake Atitlan is surrounded by several towns, all accessible via public and private boat, each unique and worth exploring. Don’t miss out on textile shopping in San Juan, the people watching in Panajachel, cliff diving in San Marcos or the restaurant and bar scene in San Pedro.

The location was amazing, the island is magnificent and the hotel very intimate. The foos was very good but not enough choice, not enough quantity. Snacks would have been very welcome for a yoga retreat. The activities were very cool and the staff very friendly We had to insist to have breakfast prepared for us who were leaving before noon on the last day while it was included in the price, this is a pity. One of the two restaurants out of the resort was a poor choice. Overall the experience was wonderful thanks to our yoga teacher Cathy and to the other people here!

I did have an amazing time. Cathy is obviously amazing! The food was fine- breakfast was probably the best meal. Dinner was okay- did not love the options and how we had to choose our meals a head of time. Service could have been much better. I felt like we were constantly inconveniencing the wait staff. They were not friendly at all- never greeted with smiles, or good morning, good afternoon, etc. They were not helpful at all. The grounds of the resort and our villas were beautiful and very comfortable. The excursions were also okay- would have loved more options other than 2 hikes and 2 hot springs. Overall it was a nice trip with a great group.

Had the most amazing time on the retreat with Cat, who led a soulful and joyful experience. The beauty of the Azores was the icing on the cake. Made new connections that are bound to last. Highly recommend!!!

I had a fabulous time! the hotel was a beautiful Eco lodge hotel on the ocean. the accommodations were wonderful. it was super comfortable and the food & the service at the hotel was excellent. the events were fabulous and well planned. the hot springs and the hikes were great. the only thing that could have been better was trying to organize our 'free day' plan. I felt there was very little support around that and the hotel front desk didnt have the ability to make it happen. I wanted to plan a kayaking trip for one of the free days and even rounded up 11 people and in the end the hotel couldn't make it happen. the agreed upon time was changed at the last minute and it didn't coincide with others people's plans. I spend one evening all through dinner trying to organize the trip only to have it fall through. other than that, the excursions were planned so well and the lunches by Maria catering were delicious. thank you Sol Retreats! I would definitely attend one of your reties again.

The hotel was in an excellent location on the island, all the excursions were well planned, and the group was so much fun! Cathy Madeo is an excellent teacher and I would recommend this particular location and Solseed to others! Tina was really great too and it was wonderful to have someone from the US at the resort assisting us. The farm to table meal was fantastic! Thank you for making this possible!
