Alternative Inca Trail is a 4-day trek to Machu Picchu that will take you on a hike across the Mountains near Cusco city, following an ancient Inca Trail that connects with the Sacred Valley, follows the Urubamba River, join the Last section of the Classic Inca Trail, and Arrive at Machu Picchu through the Sungate right before the sunset. Along the way, you will have a fantastic view of Cusco from the Mounatin, visit local communities, hiking with Llamas and alpacas, visit beautiful archaeological sites such as Huchuy Qosqo, Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Wiñaywuayna, and Machu Picchu. This trail was used by the Last Inca King, who moved his rebel army in 1536 from Cusco to the Last Capital of the Incas (Vilcabamba) during the XVI century.

Pukamarca – Huchuy Qosqo – Ollantayatmbo
Wake up in your tent with a cup of coffee or tea and get ready for the second day of the hike to Huchuy Qosqo 3600m (1118127ft) a spectacular ancient city on top of the Sacred Valley, Along the way you pass streams, beautiful canyons. Spend the night in a hotel at Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo– Km104 – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes
After breakfast in the hotel, you will take the first train to Km 104 to start the Inca trail, passing Chachabamba, Wiñaywayna, Sungate, and finally, arrive at Machu Picchu late in the afternoon and have the unique opportunity to see almost empty this spectacular place. After Exploring the upper part and enjoy the sunset, you’ll take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, check-in in your hotel to spend the night. Dinner at Indio Feliz.

Fantastic trip and organisation. We were very well looked after by our first tour guide, I learnt a ton and he answered all the questions I threw with great insights and friendliness. When we had to take the train to Aguas Caliente he got the restaurant owner (he dropped us off to) to walk us to the station and get us on at the right place at the right time which was excellent. We then had a great second day tour climbing up Machu Pichu Montana as well as tour. I did have to drop a star, not for tour guides, but just for the train back to Ollantaytambo. Because the train booking, where we paid extra to do the vistadome months in advance was in different carriages! So we weren't allowed to sit together and this ruined the experience. It didn't help that I regret the upgrade as it wasn't that good a journey, but to be separated the whole time from my new fiance was an awful experience to end an otherwise wonderful trip!

We had an amazing time on the short Inca. Abelardo and Sarah were great guides, both so friendly engaging and knowledgable. Everything was well organised, tasty food, nice hotel, would recommend!

Everyone was very helpful in getting us reconnected to our group in Macchu Picchu. I was very appreciative in the communication from our guide Monolo. We had a great time despite not actually hiking the Inca trail!!

We had an amazing time despite my getting sick and not being able to finish. Klover and Monolo and all the crew were amazing. They were very concerned for my health which was appreciated. They were encouraging, informative, helpful and kind! I'll be back to finish what I started!!
