A magical trip to explore the wonders of Peru. It is divided into two parts, first we will do rural community tourism in the Amazon and then we will discover the Peruvian Andes.

About this trip

Rural community tourism is an experience in which travellers are integrated sustainably with the rural environment and developed by local citizen organizations for the benefit of the community. This tour focuses on supporting these initiative which not only provide income, but also uplift cultural preservation of indigenous communities. It breaks down barriers to engage underserved communities in meaningful, life-changing ways.

What an experience! Excellent itinerary to cater for many varieties of activities. Also allowed for flexibility when the need arose. Kim and  Elisha were great hosts - nothing was too much trouble. They both have an excellent manner in communicating with the group and were relaxed and fun loving. Kim’s local knowledge was very helpful. 
Accommodation was ideal at each destination and the food was delicious. It was fantastic to be away from mainstream tourism and really experience the true culture of Guatemala and Costa Rica! Pura Vida!

Transfers to Antigua from Guatemala were well organised and easy to find. The house we stayed in was comfortable and location ideal. Kim was a fantastic host, welcoming and very knowledgeable. Lots of fun and laughter. Would highly recommend!

Exceptional!  Saw beautiful and interesting things that you won't always find on a Tourist map, so there were not a lot of tourists.  Went to unique restaurants.  Beautiful sights.

What a wonderful and diverse tour!   Under Kim's guidance, we experienced so much of what this fantastic country has to offer - from the heat of the Amazon where we stayed in little wooden cabins, spent time with the local community, explored the forest and fished in the river - to the wonders of Machu Picchu and Cusco. Casa Alma Travel with Kim and Alex provide the absolutely best travel experiences I have ever had! We were a group of six from Canada, ranging in age from 19 to 77. Everyone loved the activities and was well fed. All of the accommodations were absolutely perfect. Kim and Alex just make you feel so comfortable and cared for. We could completely relax and just appreciate Costa Rica. This was actually my second trip with them after travelling with a group of adult students as their chaperone a year ago. Highly recommend!!

Starting with the Amazon was the highlight for me. A good 3 days in the forest on the river fishing or night walk to observe nature in the wild. All very grounding.

Alma Travel Tee

If you are in any doubt about taking this trip don’t hesitate jump right in. You get a real feel for the country starting in Guatemala City in the South travelling up to Flores and the great Mayan temples at Tikal in the North with loads of adventures in between. A full fun packed itinerary made extra special by Kim the tour guide. Not only does she have a great knowledge of the country she provides those special moments like an impromptu picnic on a sunset boat trip. 
The volunteering part of the trip we worked with Fundamaya, an organisation that sponsors pre school education for families that have nothing, this was both rewarding and humbling. A Christmas party for 3 pre schools was a fun special occasion. 
You will not be disappointed.

This was my 2nd trip to CR with Alma Travel and it surpassed all expectations. I felt safe and cared about at all levels. Casa Alma is a little haven of welcoming with comfortable accommodation and plentiful delicious food cooked by Flory. Alex and Kim nurture your soul. This trip was well thought through. It touched me; spending time with the Amazonian community, meeting and sharing a spiritual day with the Inka people. The guides in Cusco, Machupicchu we're excellent. Kim working with Lucas the guide to take us to the Rainbow mountain who looked look after us all day. 
Kim's trips are very in touch with the people and the land. Thanks Kim and Alex who helped us who were a little ill. 

I loved my time at Casa Alma! It was such a relaxing and peaceful experience. It's in a wonderful neighborhood with delicious restaurants nearby and beautiful flowers to enjoy during your morning walk. I will certainly be back!

The lodging at Casa Alma was simple and wonderful. The beds are twin beds and each room sleeps 4 people. Each room has its own bathroom as well. The house is (very safe) walking distance to stores, great restaurants, and even a mall and gym! I highly recommend Casa Alma!

We had the BEST time with Alma Travel! Not only are Kim and Alex SO NICE and thoughtful, but they are also very knowledgeable about Costa Rica's culture, history, etc. I loved that they could answer all of our questions. Kim is a native English speaker (but also fluent in Spanish) and Alex is fluent in Spanish (but also speaks English). It is the best of both worlds. I highly recommend traveling with Alma Travel. 

Marbella Doka, Poas & La Paz Tour

Our Costa Rica trip was A-maz-ing!  Alma Travel is a travel agent, concierge, chauffer, and personal assistant all in one!  Kim and Alex went above and beyond to customize our trip specifically for our family.  Kim booked our resort and all of our adventures.  She arranged all of our transportation so we did not have to worry about anything except enjoying ourselves.  We only had to show up at the airport and everything else was taken care of.  I'm not sure I want to travel any other way again!

Just wanted to commend AlmaTours for organizing such a fantastic tour for us. We did and saw so many amazing things on this tour.

When Iarrived in Guatemala city, I was welcomed by Alex, which immediately made me appreciate the hospitality from the very start of our journey..
 
Our tour guide, Kim was very knowledgeable and briefed us of every aspect of the places we visited. The driver was experienced as he was able to take us to the busiest parts of the country as well as the rugged parts as well with ease. .

Alma Tours provided us with great hotels, eateries . We would never have discovered these amazing places if we were going to do it on our own. Thank you Alma Tours.

Participating in the Happiness Journey, following the UN Annual Summit on Global Happiness, was a great way to experience Costa Rica. Live the Pura Vida with Alma, Tropical Winter Getaway - January 2024

Casa Alma Travel Group was absolutely amazing.  We did not give them much time to plan our trip during the busy season.  They asked what we wanted to get out of the trip and we said we needed a trip of healing after the past year we had.  We gave them little direction.  They took care of the itinerary and all the plans.  The trip was perfect.  It was everything we wanted and more.  You get really submersed into the culture and learn a lot.  We loved the guides and felt it added a lot to the trip.  Would highly recommend this group for your travels.  They offer a lot of variety.  We will definitely use them again and they are wonderful to work with.

II had the best trip ever,working with the sea turtles was amazing..All the staff at Turtle Trax was so friendly and the food was amazing..All the accomadations were were fabulous..All the trips planned for us were so much fun..

SEA TURTLE CONSER-VACATION - LA FORTUNA & MONTEVERDE 2023

It was my second time on a similar trip and it was a fantastic experience. The Sea Turtle conservation project was very interesting and informative. I learned a lot about sea turtles, their nesting habits, the number of eggs they lay, the hatchlings' chance of survival when released, etc.  Everybody was very friendly, attentive to our needs and always ready to answer questions or provide clarifications.  

The Monteverde trip was great and I had to do the zip-lining again. Dining at the Tree House was a treat. 

La Fortuna is a favourite of mine. The hike through the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges Park was a new experience and I loved it. The cacao farm was interesting and making chocolate bonbons was a fun way to spend a few hours.  And you can't go to La Fortuna and not go to the thermal bath.

This really was a trip of a lifetime and a real privilege to be able to spend 5 days at Turtle Trax volunteering with the amazing people working there. Memories of the turtles and hatchlings will stay with me forever. 
We had a really great time in La Fortuna and Monteverde as well and all thanks so our wonderful bus driver Joel and amazing tour guide Yana.

Yanna and Joelle, the tour guide and driver respectively, made the trip so much fun. The adventures were amazing ie the turtles,
the kids, the projects etc. Costa Rica is a beautiful place. The only thing I didn't like was the no-see ums that seemed to just love attacking me.

I had an amazing experience.   Kim was an excellent guide.   She had everything planned to perfection.   Any special requests she went out of her way to accommodate.   
The accommodations were excellent and enjoyed visiting and seeing all that the Amazon and Andes had to offer.  A few fun surprises ended up being highlights of the trip.   I highly recommend Alma travels to anyone looking to travel Peru or Costa Rica.
