Pickup from your accommodation at 8.00 a.m. We drive by car to Atillo Lakes, some of Ecuador’s most beautiful paramo lakes, at 3540 m./ 11.614 ft. above sea level. This is the starting point of the spectacular 47-km. bike ride on a quiet road traversing the Sangay National Park. You will cycle from the paramo through cloud forest to the tropical rainforest. On the way you pass picturesque waterfalls and abundant vegetation with orchids, ferns and mosses. After the first 23 kilometers we cross a tunnel of 700 m. which is part of our great adventure. At the other side of the tunnel you can feel the warm breeze of the Amazon jungle. We continue descending with now and then a few uphills, until we arrive at the village of 9 de Octubre, at 1650 m./ 5414 ft. At this point you can decide - if you have enough energy - to continue biking 4 km. uphill to an observation tower, at 1875 m./ 6152 ft. If the weather is good, from here you have a splendid view of the Sangay Volcano (one of the most active volcanoes in the world), and the Amazon jungle with the Upano and Abanico rivers.
Transfer to Riobamba in the late afternoon.
