What you'll learn
Earn two ASA certifications and learn to skipper a 20–40 ft auxiliary-powered sailboat through hands-on learning, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Topics include:
Sailing terminology and the parts of a sailboat
Helm commands, points of sail and sail trim
Docking, anchoring and auxiliary engine operation
Basic boat systems
Navigation rules, safety protocols, and basic coastal navigation
Weather, safety and seamanship
Crew in a real race
Many classes fall on our local William H. Seward Yacht Club's race days, so students of these classes will get hands-on practice crewing in a race. It's a great way to test your knowledge of navigation rules, sailing commands, points of sail and sail trim.
