About this trip

** Scroll down this page to view the complete, day by day, itinerary**

Experience history, culture, the arts, and Spanish language learning on our 8-day/7-night immersion trip to Mexico City. This trip is designed for students at the Basic III level, with all activities conducted in both English and Spanish. Your program directors, Dominique and Eimy, will be available to provide translations and language corrections when necessary. In addition to bilingual activities, we will have 10 hours of structured classroom time throughout the duration of the 8-day trip.

CDMX, unlike most big cities in Latin America, is not just a place for a layover, it's a destination in its own right. Having experienced quite the renaissance, CDMX has ditched its reputation of being dingy and dangerous and is quickly becoming a major destination known for its culture, art, and gastronomy. With an approximate population of 21.3 million people, Mexico City is a bustling metropolis that balances a rich history and tradition with modern innovation and world-class amenities.

From a stroll through the charming La Condesa neighborhood, to ride downtown on the overloaded metro there is something for everyone in Mexico City. Plus, you'll truly be hard-pressed to find a city that beats CDMX when it comes to food, art, and museums.

With so much to see, do, eat and drink in Mexico City a week is enough time to just get your toes wet in exploring this incredible city. We will start our adventure by getting settled into a quaint boutique hotel which will serve as our home base for 7 nights and is the perfect place to come back to after a long day exploring the city or a night of salsa ;)

During our time together we will immerse ourselves in history, culture, and everyday life in Mexico City through a diverse array of activities. A few of the major highlights of this trip are our visits to many of CDMX's art and history museums, a night at the famous folkloric ballet, a morning boat ride down the river in Xochimilco with mariachis and marimbas aboard, stuffing our faces on unique Mexican fare at Mercado Jamaica, drinking tequila in Plaza Garibaldi and staring out across the city from the top of the Teotihuacán pyramids!

Itinerary

Day One
Arrival in CDMX & Welcome Dinner

Participants will be flying in from a variety of different places, therefore, travelers are welcome to choose the flight path that best suits their travel preferences and needs. That being said, we encourage participants to book flights that arrive in Mexico City (CDMX) in time to get settled in before the welcome dinner that evening. If you need assistance booking your international airfare please let us know!

Upon arriving at the airport, your Program Directors will be waiting to escort you to the hip La Reforma or La Condesa neighborhood via private shuttle (30-minute drive). Once in the heart of the city, you will be checked into your hotel and be given a brief orientation of the area. If you need any assistance going to the bank, store, pharmacy, etc., Chelsea or Dominique will be more than happy to accompany you.

In the event, you arrive early in the morning and would like to coordinate any specific activities during the day just let us know so we can accommodate your request!

Later that evening we will enjoy an incredible welcome dinner at our favorite fusion restaurant El Nudo Negro!

The Heart of Travel was born out of a deep-rooted love and passion for travel, art, history, food, nature, culture and adventure as well as a call to give back to the communities and people that had already provided us with so much. The travel industry has long been bombarded with double decker tour busses, beach front resorts and cruise ships, often at the expense of the local communities. As a response to this failing system, we began a boutique travel company that allows clients to explore new places in an authentic and non-touristy way, offering travelers a more intimate and unique experience all while removing the stress and hassle of researching, planning, bargain hunting, reserving and more that goes along with planning a trip or vacation.

We had a wonderful trip to Costa Rica. We were with a great group of people and enjoyed comfortable accommodations, good food, and interesting outings. We visited three different geographic areas in Costa Rica and learned a great deal about the plants, animals and people in each. Our guides were informative and fun, and Chelsea handled every situation with ease.

Most amazing trip ever. Wonderfully organized covering many insightful aspects of Ecuadorian culture and its varied people. Great to learn all that is done to preserve Ecuador’s special natural treasures. Our Ecuadorian guide, Gustavo, went over and above to make our visit the best I have ever had when traveling in a foreign country.

Gustavo, our guide, was wonderful! He was attentive to details & helpful & organized. Great meals including choices like fresh fish and the desserts were fabulous. All the animals and great activities were life changing . Our days were packed with adventure. Some of the boat rides & bus rides in the Galapagos were long & uncomfortable. The accommodations were quite good and ranged from excellent (Hotel de la Isla) to comfortable with a view. (Casa de María needs some hooks to hang things in the rooms but the views were magnificent so can’t complain too much. ) All the support staff from guides to drivers, etc. we’re very warm & welcoming.

Absolutely loved the casa gardenia. Such great breakfasts options. Passion fruit is my new favorite... and such GREAT service. They anticipated our every need... even had food to go for our EARLY morning departures. Thank you !
