Day 1

Day 1 image

Anchorage to King Salmon and on to Brooks Falls!

We will depart Anchorage in the morning, and fly to the bush village of King Salmon where we will catch a water taxi to Brooks Falls. We'll have until early evening at Brooks before returning to King Salmon for the night.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Brooks Falls

We will take the first water taxi of the morning to Brooks, allowing us a few hours before it gets busy. During the peak hours, we'll venture away from the main platforms and spend more time photographing the bears and landscapes in more out-of-the-way locations. As people begin to depart in the mid-afternoon, we will head back up to the main viewing platforms until early evening. We'll catch the last water taxi of the day back to King Salmon for the night.

Day 3

Day 3 image

Brooks Falls and back to Anchorage

Another early morning trip to Brooks and we'll have several hours to enjoy our final day at the Falls. We'll take a late afternoon water taxi back to King Salmon before flying on to Anchorage where we will spend the night.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Anchorage to Homer, Alaska

After three busy days, we will have a more relaxed morning, sleeping in a bit before making a mid-morning departure for the drive to Homer. Along the way, we will make stops to photograph the mountains, glaciers, wildflowers, lakes, and rivers of the Kenai Peninsula. As we get closer to Homer, we'll make a short detour to look for the abundant Bald Eagles that call this part of Alaska home. Night in Homer.

Day 5

Day 5 image

Homer and Coastal Bears

Depending on tidal schedules, we'll take an early or late morning bush flight to the coast of Lake Clark or Katmai National Park. We will land on the beach and have a few hours to spend with the abundant coastal brown bears as they graze in the sedge meadows or dig for clams in the mud flats. The landscape here is remarkable with towering mountains, glaciers, and a wild coastline. We'll return to Homer in the afternoon.

Day 6

Day 6 image

Exploring Homer and Kachemak Bay

We'll head out for some local explorations in the morning. Perhaps we'll look for some more local Bald Eagles, or go for a hike on the bluff above Homer, where we can admire the abundant wild flowers that grow in this part of Alaska. In the afternoon, we'll head to the marina where we'll head out on a private boat charter for four hours of photographing marine wildlife and the dramatic landscape of Kachemak Bay. Horned and Tufted Puffins, sea otters, and harbor seals are common. But there is also a good chance for Humpback Whales and even orcas. That night, we'll have a final dinner at one of Homer's excellent restaurants.

Day 7

Day 7 image

Homer to Anchorage and Departure

In the morning, we'll close up our suitcases, and turn our wheels north for Anchorage. We'll make stops for good photo opportunities and a picnic lunch, arriving back in Anchorage by mid to late afternoon, in plenty of time for evening flights home.
