      The Fryeburg Fair

The Fryeburg Fair - It was a chilly day in March of 1851 when a few local farmers and merchants got together and decided to show off their produce, cattle and wares to the community. Since those humble beginnings, Fryeburg Fair has grown to become Maine’s largest agricultural fair complete with harness racing, a farm museum second to none, the world’s largest steer and oxen show and a reputation known throughout North America.  Enjoy lunch on your own here at the fair and take in some of the great events such as Ox Pulling, Beef & Lamb Auctions, the Flower Show, Horse Pulling, and everyone’s favorite Harness Racing.

Here's a short video from Chronicle About the Fryeburg Fair - Click Here!

      Chondola Ride at Sunday River

Chondola Ride - Included in your package is the Chondola ride that takes us to the top of North Peak at Sunday River, giving visitors spectacular views of the Mahoosuc Mountains and across the Sunday River Valley. Visible within a short walk from the top are all eight of Sunday River’s peaks, along with the entire Mahoosuc Range including Old Speck Mountain - the third highest peak in Maine with an elevation over 4,000 ft. For the ride up, guests can choose between open chairs or enclosed gondola cabins, then for the return trip can choose to ride down in a gondola cabin or hike down one of our recommended trails.

      North American Wife Carrying Competition

Sunday River Fall Festival & North American Wife Carrying Competition - the Sunday River Fall Festival Voted one of the Top 100 Events in the Country.  Come and celebrate the end of summer with live music, the always-entertaining 18th Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship, the 34th Annual Blue Mountain Arts & Crafts Fair, and a full array of activities including wagon rides, chainsaw demonstrations, and wine tent.  About Wife Carrying: The legend behind the North American Wife Carrying Championship is based on 19th century Finnish legend “Ronkainen the Robber” who had high qualifications for the men he accepted into his band. To prove their worth, men had to compete through a difficult course with a heavy sack (or woman grabbed from neighboring villages) on their back. Today Sunday River continues the tradition with the 15th annual North American Wife Carrying Championship.  Wife-carrying is based on husband-and-wife teams racing with the husband carrying the wife through a regulation length 278-yard obstacle course featuring log hurdles, sand traps, and the always popular “widow maker” water hazard. Enjoy as teams compete for fame, fortune, and a chance to compete at the World Championships in Finland the following summer. The winning couple takes home the wife’s weight in beer, five times her weight in cash, and an entry into the World Championship.

We had a great time. Food was great. Music was great. However, spending 2.5 hours on a bus was much too long. I'd rather drive up myself and be there in about 1.3 hours. Stopping in Billerica then in Waltham added an extra hour to our trip so our group will probably not be doing this again.

Best of Times trip to Danversport Yacht Club (New Years Eve Day- American Bandstand 12/31/2022 in Mass. was absolutely awesome, food delicious, staff wonderful and great music. We all had a wonderful time and met a lot of fun people. Loved the band as they played lots of varieties of music selections and requests. This is the second time I have gone to this event, and it definitely keeps us on our dancing feet. Thank you, Best of Times for another Best of a Time. Happy New Year!!!! See you again soon! always, Kathy Jerome NH

Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves. Bus travel to/from Logan airport was smooth and the driver was very courteous. Flights and connections went well considering the size and age of the group. Our director Tim and Nashville bus driver Vaneeta were great. He provided timely and useful information so we knew when to be where we needed to be and she was always right at the predetermined spot and time with a big smile for all of us. Our only complaint was the pacing of day #1. We got on the bus at 1:30am, arrived in Nashville (after a flight transfer in Chicago and not a lot of waiting time) to get right on the bus for a tour of the city before stopping to get something to eat. We understand that the hotel rooms aren't ready that early in the day. Maybe next time (if it's the same age demographic) have the flight to Nashville later in the day so your group can settle in and get a sense of the Opryland Hotel before getting to it the following day. The tours and sites you chose to highlight were excellent. The Grand Ol' Opry show, Ryman Theater and General Jackson Shows were super. Didn't care so much for the Oak Ridge Boys but the evening and venue were nice. The food was generally good. Nice breakfast variety each morning. Dinners were okay and there was plenty to eat. I worked long ago in the hospitality industry and know how it goes when feeding a large group but you might want to think about having one lunch or dinner meal in Nashville be specifically about Bar-b-que! Too much chicken lol. Anyway, thank you for a enjoyable Nashville Christmas experience! We would consider traveling with you again.

Great time, but need an extra day up front with later departure on first day with no planned activities. Really need some time to settle in, explore, get a decent meal, and get a good night’s rest. Our guide, Tim, was absolutely fantastic and our bus driver, Vaneta, was incredible. Nonstop flights would have been preferable if possible. Also if a flight is going out at 5am there is nothing open at Logan until 4 at the earliest…please remove indication that we have time for something to eat before the flight from your brochure. Thanks for everything. Gave 4 stars only because of the marathon first day.
