About The Show

Direct from the USA and after sell out shows across North America and abroad Best of Times Travel presents the country’s Number 1 Tribute show to two of the biggest names in Country Music this Century.  “A Smoky Mountain Christmas”, starring Wendy T and Dave Karl recreates the magic of Country Music’s Favorite Couple - Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. This incredible show recreates their incredible - Once Upon A Christmas Album - which was certified Platinum Twice and their subsequent CBS special in 1984 titled Kenny & Dolly: A Christmas to Remember.  Of course no show would be completed without the full list of their greatest hits such as: The Gambler, Lady, Lucille, We’ve Got Tonight, Jolene, 9 to 5, I Will Always Love You, Coat of Many Colors, Islands in the Stream, and so many more, being performed for our audience live!  Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers are each legends in their own right. Both have enjoyed singing AND acting careers that have spanned approximately five decades.  Between these superstars they have accumulated CMA Music Awards, Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and almost 50 Number 1 Hits, and are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.  In 1981, Dolly and Kenny teamed up to record Islands in the Stream, written by the Bee Gees.  Islands in the Stream was a smash hit. In fact, in August of 2005, Islands in the Stream was recognized as THE #1 favorite duet of all time.  Don’t miss out on this amazing Christmas show paying tribute to incredible country music legends.  They’re so good you’ll completely forget your not listening to the original performers.

Unfortunately this was not one of the better concerts we have seen. They sounded like a rock band playing Doobie Bros. songs. Didn’t really sound like the Doobie Bros. Also no rapport with the audience, they just sang song after song with no real introduction. They didn’t give any history of the band or of the songs, they didn’t even introduce themselves. The lead guitar was a good guitar player but had no personality, never smiled or even looked at the crowd. Sorry, but disappointing.

Overall this trip was well planned and organized. Both Fiddler and Noah shows were excellent and up to Broadway standards. Suggestions for improvement. !. Felt I would like a more immersive Amish experience, such as visiting a typical Amish homestead, even if it was done with reenactors. Maybe "Amish Village" would be a good option. 2. I found the train ride boring and could be eliminated to provide more time for Amish lifestyle. 3. Dinner after Noah Experience could be more like an Amish family style gathering at a meeting house or barn. 4. I thing earlier to Longwood Garden (10 or 11 entry) would have us back in Westwood earlier. Great trip. Matt Sears

I submitted a review last week but I didn’t get confirmation that it was received. I’ll try to re-create another one. For the most part it was a very good tour. Allison aka Allie was outstanding! She handled one sensitive issue with aplomb and professionalism.. There were times when room cards for the hotels weren’t ready, but she took care of that deftly. She was so well organized and also has a good sense of humor. Sometimes our turn-around time was very tight, such as checking into a hotel and leaving for an event, but that’s not unusual for a guided bus tour. All the Hilton hotels were very nice, especially the Double Tree right on Ocean City’s beach. I could have stayed there all week! The breakfast food at the hotels and our dinners were very good, with one exception: The Golden Corral in Williamsburg was AWFUL. Very disorganized when we arrived; there was a large dining area on one side and we all could have eaten there, but the hostess kept moving us around. The restaurant was a zoo with long lines to the buffets and large groups of school kids running around. This place was totally inappropriate for us. I recommend selecting another place. The places we visited were terrific : Annapolis State House, the Naval Academy, the Marines Museum, Colonial Williamsburg, Norfolk Naval Harbor, Assateague Island, and Berlin, a delightful little town, where we had lunch on the way back. I’ve probably left out places….. All the guides were so good, which is essential. And the red, white, and blue icing on the cake was the Virginia Military Tattoo. I know a little about the ones in Halifax and Edinburgh, but I’ve never been to one. It blew my mind! It brought forth patriotic pride, emotion, and awe. My favorite part was the bag- pipers and the Highland dancers. It was great seeing other countries represented, too. hope to go to another one. Our bus driver did a fantastic job, both keeping us on schedule as much as possible, and maneuvering in tight spaces. She and Allie were a great team of 2. My only concern was that the bus was cold. I heard other travelers complain, too, and with a group of seniors, that’s important. I had 3 layers of clothing on, and I did speak to Joanne about the temperature but it remained quite cool most of the trip. In retrospect I will remember this as a very successful trip, and I do recommend Best of Times tours for anyone. Thank you to all who participated in running this fun and informative tour, Diane Sheahan and Jerry Gove
