      About this trip

On this 11 day tour we’ll explore the unrivaled, relaxed beauty of the Borders. Traveling from East to West through this lesser explored region of Scotland you’ll experience everything you’d expect from an adventure across this bountiful country, and into England.

Beginning in Stirling, follow in the footsteps of Scotland’s two great legendary warriors: William Wallace and Robert The Bruce and as we travel south to explore the sights and lands that these two men fought for.

Leaving Stirling we’ll first head for Rosslyn Chapel where you can hear the tales of the Knights Templar before settling down in Peebles for a three night stay. From Peebles we’ll explore along the River Tweed and take in the Great Map of Scotland as well as the Great Tapestry of Scotland, learning about the historic industries of the borders: farming, mining and textiles.

Understand how the Borders inspired the author Sir Walter Scott to write a series of ballads about its beauty and witness it through his eyes: from his home in Abbotsford House and his favourite view in the country, Scotts View.

Leaving Peebles we’ll head west, crossing over Greymares Tail Waterfall and climbing up to Wanlockhead, Scotland’s Highest Village, before winding our way south, going beyond the border and settling in the beautiful Lake District of England.

The Lake District is England’s largest National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll discover spectacular landscapes, picturesque villages, a warm welcome at our accommodation, and a experience the rich cultural heritage. We’ll also explore the fells, splash about on the lakes, have a wild adventure and take time to enjoy the peace.

Once we are across the border and into England, we’ll take advantage of our base and will take a day trip to visit Hadrian’s Wall and Vindolanda. Hadrian’s Wall marked the border of the Roman Empire, and there are still remains and ruins to be seen today. Vindolanda is a fascinating archaeological site that shows just how the Roman’s lived – both officer and commoner.

To end the adventure we’ll head back north towards Stirling, stopping at Dumfries House, a beloved home of none other than the King himself and wind past the lochs, forest and rolling hills which make the borders truly unique.

This whole tour will be peppered with the sounds and stories of Scotland. Experience music across the borders with a number of music sessions and concerts scheduled across the trip. Hear the songs and melodies inspired by the legends of this land.

Our guides, Alan in Edenborough and Duncan on the bus, were both informative and entertaining. Edenborough: Four days of walking tours in Edenborough was a bit much, so a group of us scheduled a private tour to the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel on the fourth and free day. The Fredrick House hotel was nice in spite of the graffiti and rubbish outside of the hotel. Dornie: The hotel was quaint, but isolated. Day trips were wonderful with great scenery. Rassey and music with Dougie and the two other musicians was excellent; highlights of the trip. Inverness: The Beauford Hotel was out of town, on a hill, and needed TLC, although the bar area was very pleasant. My room had several maintenance and housekeeping issues: the mattress was old and smelled, shower leaked, shower head was not attached to the wall, radiator leaked, no luggage rack, dirty carpet, light out in the bathroom, no mirror outside the bathroom to use the hair dryer. The Malt Room was enjoyable. Stirling: The Premier Inn was very nice. I would have liked some time to explore the town. In general, when touring on the bus, we were given an hour for lunch. This was not enough time in crowed villages, like Portree, to use the toilet, find a pub/restaurant, and get in a wee bit of shopping. This made the tour feel rushed.

Really a great tour. The guides were the best! The accommodations were good, the food good and the scenery outstanding! The musicians were all amazing! Truly a wonderful time.

I'm sure after a few more trips, James and Kort will fine-tune this trip to be the same fantastic experience that the Ireland trips are. However, there are some definite improvements needed for Scotland to get to that point. There was too much time spent on the bus and too much time (!) standing in one spot listening to the tour guide, with too little time actually given to the historic places of interest. Given the more expensive price tag of the Scotland trip, the choice of hotels was disappointing. The Dornie Hotel especially was horrible, from the quality of the rooms to the food to the lack of customer service. It also was too far away from the Isle of Skye and Isle of Raasay trips. Since the entire group couldn't stay together in the hotel anyway, it might be better to find multiple B and B's closer to the isles. I'd also recommend cutting the long trip to Glenelg stop completely. As for organization, the travel company provided needed information too late in the process. For example, by the time we heard about the lack of elevators, those of us who had added additional days for our trip had already planned our wardrobe and luggage. The emails, which clearly were stock emails used for different tours, added confusion when they hadn't been updated correctly. All in all, the key element to the great Ireland trips were a good balance of travel time, free time, quality historic info and great music by M&M and other artists. This, unfortunately, just fell short in all areas.

The tour was wonderful. Fiona was fantastic and Norry (SP?) our driver was fantastic as well. He kept us laughing and informed. The music was incredible. We are not wisky drinkers but the tastings were interesting and the company was great! I felt that ther was enough free time to do you own thing and enough structured time to make us feel like we got our moneys worth. Thanks to all that made it a memorable trip!

Hi Kristin, we are so glad to hear you had such a great trip! You don't need to enjoy drinking whisky to appreciate the history and fascinating production process. We're glad you you agree and found the company enjoyable as well. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review - we hope to see you again one day!

I enjoyed my trip. I especially enjoyed the music by Moors&mcCumber and the amazing musicians from Scotland. That was the highlights for me. The trip was overall slow for my style and pace. I felt lots of time were spent on the bus and time left to explore a new place was limited. I prefer more active vacations. I had a great group of fellow travelers and I loved the hospitality and kindness of Scottish people.

Hi Safia, thank you for the feedback. We understand everyone's vacation styles are different and appreciate the honesty. We will take that to heart. Very excited to hear that you loved the music though!
