Awesome trip! Saw all the endemics we expected. Mandy knows her birds! Hotels were comfortable and restaurants were delicious. Loved the small group. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

Best birding tour I've ever been on in the past 20 years!

We had an amazing time on this four island adventure observing over 100 species of birds throughput while learning about the culture, plants, other animals, and history of the state. The local food was delicious and the people on the tour with my wife and I were just as excited about this adventure.

This 9 day birding trip visited Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island of Hawaii with a focus on seeing the Hawaiian endemics, seabirds, countable exotics, as well as other naturally occurring species. The trip list was in excess of 90 species with the vast majority well seen by every trip participant. Travel on the islands was by small bus or vans with seating for 12 passengers which enabled a comfortable ride for everyone as we traveled between birding sites. Travel between islands was by non-stop jet service making these transitions from one island to another comfortable and efficient. Our days generally began shortly after sunrise and ended just before sunset maximizing our hours in the field. There were well planned bathroom stops and sit-down lunches that broke up each day. Many of our birding stops required no walking at all and at those that did the distance covered wasn't great and the pace was that of a stroll to ensure no one lagged behind. Birding highlights for this participant were the 17 endemic species tallied, everything from Hawaiian Goose (Nene), Hawaiian Duck, Hawaiian Coot, and Hawaiian Hawk to 3 species of Elepaio, Omao, and 9 species of Hawaiian Honeycreeper including Akiapolaau, which was voted bird of the trip. Other birds of interest included an up-close encounter with 2 Bristle-thighed Curlews foraging in a cemetery, Blue-billed White Terns seen roosting in mature trees from a sidewalk in downtown Honolulu, nesting Laysan Albatross in a residential setting, and 13 seabird species on an 8-hour pelagic trip that included Parasitic Jaeger, Black-winged Petrel, and a Christmas Shearwater. As for our leader, Mandy, she was fabulous!!! Personable, patient, prepared, and highly skilled, she was a joy to travel with and quickly got the group on target birds at each stop. Additionally, Mandy was our driver for the entire trip and despite her advanced birding skills, her greatest proficiency might actually be driving. She skillfully piloted the bus and vans on each island, backing into tight parking spaces on the first try and parallel parking without ever hitting a curb!!! Truly amazing to someone who struggles with such tasks while driving a compact SUV. Lastly, this participant (and 2 others) joined Mandy and Sam (her local guide on the Big Island) for a one-day extension after the completion of the main tour. We did a little birding (had our best encounter with a Hawaiian Hawk of the trip), visited a coffee farm, stopped at a black sand beach, and spent the last half of the day in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Sam explained the operation of the coffee farm and the intricate process of growing coffee plants and preparing the harvested coffee beans for market, led us on a walk through an immense lava tube, and after sunset conducted an absolutely fascinating stargazing session deftly pointing out constellations, planets, and the Andromeda galaxy with a handheld laser pointer. The day finished with dinner at the Volcano House on the rim of the caldera. Unfortunately, on this day there was no active eruption in progress, but we were treated to a spectacular sunset as the sun dropped behind the veil of smoke and steam rising from the crater. I highly recommend this trip and extension. My only regret, given the state of Hawaiian birds, is that I didn't do this trip sooner. Gary Chapin Ticonderoga, NY
