About your trip
Outstanding place in the Peruvian rainforest with a 7m Anaconda staked out at Pozo Don Pedro and recent sightings of Tapir and Jaguar on the trails. Rio Los Amigos Research Station is a very modern set-up in the rain forest with good trails, electric light and even internet and it has the specialties of SE Peru even such rare species as Long-crested Pygmy-Tyrant, Black-faced Cotinga, Rufous-fronted Ant-thrush and Peruvian Recurvebill. There are 10 species of monkeys regularly seen including Emperor Tamarin and Monk Saki Monkey.

Day 1
Travel to Location
. Overland to Laberinto and from there boat to the Research Center. Here we stay in dormitory rooms with private bathrooms. Private double cabins are available for a 50 US surcharge per person. There is electric light and wireless internet available. There is also access to the observation deck of a 60-m radio tower. In the 400 ha property there are good trails covering a variety of habitats.
In short birding will be great and very comfortable.

Gunnar Engblom is a Swedish birder who has lived in Peru since 1998. He operates bird-watching and nature tours for Kolibri Expeditions and 7 Wonders Birding. He is also a dedicated 3:09 marathon runner, training for the Revel Mt Charleston Marathon in Las Vegas at the end of March, 2026 with the hope of getting sub 3h.. In 2016 Gunnar re-launched his rock’n’roll singer career with his band Guran Guran, which has got over 379,000 views on the "Rinkeby and Tensta" YouTube video.
