A nature experience rooted in place

Figs on the Funcho is a small riverside retreat in rural Algarve, known for its focus on sustainability, biodiversity, and meaningful guest experiences. Our ongoing partnership with Vita Nativa supports bird monitoring, habitat protection, and environmental education in the local area.

This workshop brings that work to life through learning, making, and shared conversation in a calm natural setting.

What the morning includes

Welcome Tea & Arrival (from 10:00)

Begin the morning with a cup of tea and time to arrive, settle in, and enjoy the riverside surroundings.

Birdlife & Biodiversity Talk (10:15–11:30)

An engaging, accessible talk exploring: - Bird species commonly found at Figs on the Funcho
- The ecosystems of the Funcho and Arade valleys
- The importance of biodiversity in the Algarve
- Simple, practical actions that support local wildlife

Nest Box Building Workshop (11:30–13:00)

A hands-on, guided session building a wooden bird nest box. Participants learn: - Which bird species benefit from nest boxes
- Where and how to place them correctly
- How to support birds throughout the seasons

Relaxed Seasonal Lunch (from 13:00)

A shared vegetarian lunch served at the table, with time for conversation and reflection in an unhurried setting.
