Let’s bond over a cultural rich visit to one of the most symbolic towns of Latin America: The World Cultural heritage village San Basilio de Palenque- The World Cultural heritage village Palenque was the very first liberated village of America! It was founded by Benkos Biohó, (male version of Harriet Tubman) an escaped slave who hid here with 36 other men and women. Until the sixties, San Basilio de Palenque remained mainly isolated without connecting roads and was thereby able to maintain a unique language that is not spoken anywhere else in the world. This community remained supported by their own women who built maps and roads in their hair braiding patters to get oriented in the woods and make it to the village where they were considered free.
We will interact with the locals, performance of traditional music group and traditional dances, information of the history and town lead by local guides. Lunch included
Optional
In the evening, we will head to a local establishment to enjoy some salsa vibes!
Today we immerse in authentic cuisine in a authentic cooking
We are starting our day bright and early as we head to purify ourselves at the Totumo Mud Volcano. Also known as the “Fountain of Youth”
This is another tour where Afrocolombian culture is depicted. We include our black culture in every tour we offer in all forms and expressions. On the way to the Mud Volcano, we’ll visit the Afrocolombian village called “Lomita Arena” where we will learn about the people, their way of living, the fishing in the small lake where they do catch their food and where they take water for domestic use. We also learn how the town is in the middle of the lake and the ocean but still struggles to survive. Then, we head to the Mud Volcano, take a bath in the natural volcano which is around 40 minutes away from the city. This volcano has medicinal components that work on your body making you skin soft as a baby’s. This volcano is called “the fountain of youth”.
On the way back, we stop at the Afro-Colombian village called “Tierra Baja”, or " La Boquilla” where we learn about AfroColombian art, how cultural expressions and cosmovision of the Black Colombians is depicted in art and hand-made crafts.
We meet to meet again. We head out for your departures
