About this trip

Chakana (Hacienda Antisanilla) is an important roosting site for condors. On its cliffs, up to fourty Andean Condors have been registered. The estimated population of wild Condors is only 150 individuals in the country, so the population that inhabits Chakana is of crucial importance for the species.


Chakana (Hacienda Antisanilla) was declared in 2012 a sanctuary of the Condor. Also, it is part of the buffer zone of the Antisana Ecological Reserve, as well as the greater conservation mosaic that includes the Sumaco Napo Galeras National Park and the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve.

What an amazing trip! The accomodations were spot on--comfortable and clean. Meals were delicious. The park rangers were outstanding with their knowledge of the area and the wildlife. Many thanks to Paola and everyone at JocoTours for a fantastic trip ! I was excited to stay at Tapichalaka and see the Jocotoco Antpitta ! The lodge was great and Diego and Cleo could not have taken better care of me. My room was clean, comfortable, quiet and up to date. I also enjoyed visiting The Umbrella Lodge at Buenaventura ! This facility is fantastic with the inside and outside deck to view the HB feeders and all of the birds that come to visit. Leo, Mayte and Manuel were so kind to me and took care of everything I needed. My cabin room was spacious, clean, comfortable and up to date ! I also visited Chakana up North and the views of the mountains and the Andean Condors was incredible ! 383 birds in just 8 days ... I thought this was a great adventure ! The food was excellent, the accomodoations were great and everyone of the staff members were friendly and helpful ! I found the cost for my trip to be very affordable. I look forward to traveling with JocoTours again soon !
