About your trip

Your 8-day journey offers a transformative experience, tracing the path from colonialism to liberation while fostering a deep connection to Ghana’s history, culture, and academic landscape. This 8-day, 7-night itinerary blends education, cultural immersion, scholarly exchange, and scenic beauty to offer a profound understanding of the country’s complex past and vibrant present.

In Accra, the dynamic capital, you’ll explore landmarks like the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Independence Square—powerful symbols of Ghana’s fight for freedom and independence. Engage with local scholars and educators at several of Ghana’s prestigious universities to exchange ideas around pedagogy and educational practices, offering insights into how Ghana and the diaspora shape and preserve their rich intellectual traditions. You will also experience the bustling energy of Makola Market, a key hub of commerce and daily life in the city.

Your journey through Ghana’s colonial history deepens in Cape Coast, where you’ll tour the Cape Coast Castle, a haunting reminder of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. This fortress, once a holding place for millions of enslaved Africans, invites reflection on the atrocities of slavery and the enduring spirit of those who survived. From there, visit Assin Manso, where enslaved Africans took their last bath before their forced journey across the Atlantic—a site that connects past suffering to contemporary liberation; many of these liberties may be seen through the curricular offerings at the University of Cape Coast.

As the journey unfolds, you’ll travel to Kumasi, the heart of the Ashanti Kingdom, renowned for its resistance to British colonial rule and its vibrant cultural heritage. At the Manhyia Palace Museum, you’ll explore the proud history of the Ashanti people, followed by a visit to Kejetia Market, one of the largest in West Africa. Your immersion continues with an academic exchange at a local university, where discussions around the preservation of Ashanti culture in modern pedagogy offer a deeper understanding of how tradition and education intersect in post-colonial Ghana.

The trip concludes in Jamestown, one of Accra’s oldest districts, where colonial architecture stands as a reminder of the past, juxtaposed with the vibrant energy of modern Ghana. A special farewell dinner will celebrate the culmination of your journey through a nation that has risen from oppression and colonialism to embody cultural pride, intellectual exchange, and the spirit of liberation.

REC Advisory Group is dedicated to ensuring your journey is meaningful, with flexibility in the itinerary to enrich your experience. This journey offers not just a connection to the history of Ghana but an opportunity for deep scholarly engagement and personal reflection on the country’s movement from colonialism to liberation.
