Eleven days chasing Costa Rica's signature species, from the King Vulture hide at Boca Tapada to a night of herping at Centro Manú, two private mornings with the Resplendent Quetzal at Cerro de la Muerte, scarlet macaws and Carara National Park on the Central Pacific coast, and the three-wattled bellbird to close things out in Monteverde.

Arrive in San José at your own pace. Settle in and enjoy a welcome briefing before an early start tomorrow.

Travel north to Boca Tapada, deep in the lowland rainforest. Afternoon session at the King Vulture hide and surrounding feeder platforms, photographing toucans, macaws, and one of the region's most striking raptors up close.

A full day around Boca Tapada's hides and trails, working the feeder platforms and forest edges for lowland species.

En route, stop at Cope's home and gardens, a local naturalist's private setup known for owls, bats, hummingbirds, and other wildlife. Continue to Centro Manú in the afternoon, with an evening herping session in search of frogs and reptiles.

Travel up into the Talamanca highlands.

Early morning private Resplendent Quetzal session, our first attempt at this signature species. Afternoon at leisure or photographing highland hummingbirds.

A second early morning attempt at the Resplendent Quetzal for the best possible odds, then travel down to the coast via the Costanera. Rest of the afternoon at leisure to settle in after the long transfer.

Full day around Carara National Park and the coast, starting with a morning boat trip through the Tarcoles mangroves for scarlet macaws, crocodiles, and waterbirds, then exploring Carara's trails in the afternoon.

Early morning session around Tarcoles/Carara for a final chance at scarlet macaws and other coastal species, then a late-morning departure to Monteverde, Costa Rica's cloud forest capital.

Dedicated session at Selvatura in search of the three-wattled bellbird, alongside Monteverde's rich cloud forest bird community.

Return transfer to San José for departure.
