Itinerary

Day 1
BEST OF LUANG PRABANG CITY DAY TOUR (L)

Your tour will start with a visit to the Morning Market, a lively street where locals shop for everything from colorful vegetables and exotic fruits to live frogs.

From the energy of the market, you'll step into the serene calm of one of the city’s most elaborate monasteries, Wat Mai, and then to the former King's Palace, where you’ll discover the history and present life of Luang Prabang. From there, we will head to the ancient Wat Xieng Thong temple, which features a spectacular low sweeping roof. It's Luang Prabang’s most distinctive and recognized monastery.

After lunch we'll visit either the UXO Visitor's Centre*, which documents the devastation that Laos suffered during the Second Indochina War, or peruse local crafts at Ock Pop Tok, which brings the fascinating world of traditional Lao handicrafts alive for guests. Next, we’ll explore the 16th century Wat Visoun temple, known for its enormous stupa and its collection of old gilded Buddhas.

We'll finish the day visiting the Traditional Art and Ethnology Centre (TAEC)**, the only independent resource center in Laos dedicated to the country's many and diverse ethnic groups.

*The Unexploded Ordnance Museum (UXO Museum) is closed on Saturday & Sunday.

**The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre is closed on Monday.

Reviews

We were a group of 10 avid cyclists (MTB / Gravel) for whom Tiger Trails customised a varied point to point itinerary over 6 days early Oct north of Luang Prabang. Very good value. Advance organisation and communication was excellent. The team from Tiger Trails (drivers / riders) were exceptional people who, under some trying circumstances brought about by weather damaged routes, made a plan for every hurdle. Nothing was too much for them. Joyous, happy, ever smiling people and so willing to share their insights of their beautiful country. On the organisational part, nothing was a big issue, including last minute ticket bookings, hotel changes, and bike transfers. We'd definitely ask them to be of service again. Note: we seemed to be their first real group of riders as opposed to tourists using bicycles. Thus mechanic services are not offered and guides well prepared for 'touring' but possibly not as well equipped (kit / bikes) for hard riding. Despite this, the guys were amazing. Thank you to all at Tiger Trails
