Welcome to Bucharest — Uncover the Ghost Stories of Romania’s Capital

Welcome to Bucharest, the starting point of your unforgettable Dracula Tour in Romania!

This first day is all about settling in, recovering from your travels, and stepping into the mysterious atmosphere of Eastern Europe’s most haunted capital city.

Upon arrival, a private driver will greet you at the airport and whisk you away to the elegant Hotel Cismigiu — a historic landmark famous for its eerie legends.

Originally built before World War I, the hotel fell into ruin by the 1970s and gained a reputation for ghostly happenings when the Theatre Academy used it as student housing. Today, beautifully restored to its Belle Époque charm, it still whispers secrets of its haunted past.

Evening Highlights:

• Meet your fellow travelers at a debriefing session in the hotel’s cozy lounge.

• Enjoy a welcome dinner at Vatra Restaurant, one of Bucharest’s top traditional eateries. Savor authentic Romanian dishes as your guide outlines your adventure through Transylvania’s haunted castles, vampire folklore, and Halloween celebrations.

Rest well tonight — tomorrow, the legend of Dracula truly awakens.

PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight changes depending on availability, weather, and travel conditions.

Haunted Bucharest & the Ritual of the Witches’ Pond

Today, you dive deep into Bucharest’s dark history.

Wander through the Old Town’s winding streets, where ghost stories lurk around every corner. You’ll hear tales of a haunted orphanage, a hospital once rumored for organ harvesting, and a cursed casino where players are said to still roam in death.

Your journey continues with lunch at Manuc’s Inn, the oldest functioning restaurant in Bucharest — a place where history lives in every stone and flavor.

In the afternoon, the group ventures beyond the city to the mysterious Witches’ Pond. This secluded, energy-rich forest site has long been a gathering place for witches from across Romania and beyond. It’s said that any spell cast here is guaranteed to work… but only if you offer something in return.

You’ll participate in a once-in-a-lifetime ritual in this sacred space — one steeped in folklore, intention, and ancient power. Return to Hotel Cișmigiu as dusk falls, your mind still buzzing with the day’s magic.

Monasteries, Haunted Castles, and Spectral Secrets

The Trail of Vlad — Monasteries, Spirits & the Castle of Nevermore

Leaving Bucharest behind, your path winds through the misty countryside to Snagov Monastery — the reputed burial site of Vlad the Impaler. Located on a tiny island, this fortress church is where legends say Dracula’s story may have truly ended… or perhaps just begun.

From there, travel to Câmpina to visit the eerie Iulia Hasdeu Castle. Built by a grieving father who claimed to communicate with his deceased daughter through séances, the site is now known for ghostly apparitions and unexplained phenomena.

Lunch is served in regal style at the Cantacuzino Castle’s restaurant, where Belle Époque elegance meets mountain mystique.

And then — for fans of the macabre and the modern — explore Cantacuzino Castle itself, famously used as “Nevermore Academy” in the Netflix series Wednesday. This hauntingly beautiful estate has a long history of mysterious deaths and unsettling energy.

Finally, you arrive in Sinaia, a charming mountain town where you’ll check into Hotel Sinaia. Once a healing retreat built by monks, the hotel’s silent corridors seem to hum with unseen memories. Tonight, rest under the shadow of the Bucegi Mountains — tomorrow, royalty and vampires await.

Royal Splendor and the Ultimate Dracula Halloween Party at Bran Castle

Enter the Castle of the Vampire — A Night at Bran’s Exclusive Halloween Ball

Today, your Dracula’s Haunted Halloween Romania Tour blends royal elegance with gothic revelry — an experience you’ll never forget.

Begin your day at Peleș Castle, a fairytale royal residence tucked into the Carpathian Mountains. Built in a stunning Neo-Renaissance style for Romania’s first king, Peleș was the world’s first castle fully powered by electricity. As you wander its lavish halls and secret passages, you’ll feel the echo of royal whispers from a bygone age.

Next, ward off restless spirits with a hearty Transylvanian lunch at Restaurant Alex, where you’ll savor garlic soup and rich goulash stew — a delicious local tradition said to keep vampires at bay before you venture deeper into Dracula’s domain.

This afternoon, check in at Casa din Bran, a charming inn brimming with authentic Romanian décor, just a stone’s throw from the legendary Bran Castle itself. Rest, freshen up, and prepare your most haunting costume, because tonight, the highlight of your haunted journey begins.

As dusk falls, step into the shadowy corridors of Bran Castle, famously (and controversially) known as Dracula’s Castle. Here, you’re not just visiting, you’re a VIP guest at Romania’s most exclusive Halloween celebration: The Private Vampire Ball inside Bran Castle.

Your VIP Count’s Guest Pass includes:

  • A special welcome tour through Bran Castle’s eerie halls and ramparts. Prepare for chilling stories and ghostly surprises.

  • A Vampire Gourmet Dinner, featuring a lavish themed buffet with wine, coffee, tea, and local treats.

  • An unforgettable Halloween Party, where monsters, witches, and creatures of the night dance until the witching hour. This year, the famous Romanian witches themselves will join the revelry, weaving their ancient magic into the night’s festivities as midnight strikes and Halloween is born. With a cash bar and terrifyingly good music, this is a celebration like no other.

Stay as late as your mortal energy allows. Your cozy inn is just steps away, ready to shelter you when the strigoi (ghouls) roam at midnight.

Tonight, you live the Dracula legend — at the very heart of it.

PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight changes depending on availability, weather, and travel conditions.

Brasov: Medieval Secrets and a Transylvanian Feast to Remember

After a restful morning, you journey to the medieval city of Brasov — a former Saxon stronghold wrapped in fog and legend.

Stroll through cobblestone streets and secret alleys as your guide shares stories of ancient love affairs, rebellious nobles, and the cursed corridors of the Black Church. You'll walk along Europe’s narrowest street and discover how Vlad the Impaler left his bloody mark on this fairytale town

Check into the elegant Residence Hirscher, just steps from Brasov’s central square. As dusk settles, join your disguised guide for a candlelit walking tour of the old town.

Tonight’s Halloween feast takes place in a lively pub, where mouthwatering Romanian dishes and spooky drinks flow freely. Raise your glass to the supernatural — it’s Halloween in the heart of Transylvania.

Dracula’s Birthplace, and Hidden Legends of Sighișoara

Travel back in time to Viscri, a remote Saxon village where tradition is preserved in every timber beam and cobbled lane.

Explore the 12th-century fortified church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by serene countryside and ancient fortifications.

Lunch is lovingly prepared by villagers using farm-fresh ingredients — a true taste of Transylvania’s soul.

From pastoral peace, you enter the mythic walls of Sighisoara. This is where Vlad the Impaler was born, and the medieval citadel — still inhabited — feels frozen in time. Wander colorful streets lined with towers, battlements, and burgher houses, each whispering tales of betrayal, blood, and resilience.

Check in at the Central Park Hotel, and enjoy free time to explore or visit a historical exhibition on Vlad himself.

Tonight, dine at Casa Vlad Dracul, the very house where the infamous count was born. Then, steel yourself for a paranormal investigation. Will you encounter Vlad’s lingering spirit? Or will something darker answer your call?

Urban Legends and Paranormal Mysteries in Hoia Baciu Forest

Today’s adventure takes you deeper into the hidden corners of Transylvania, where modern legends and ancient fears collide in some of Romania’s most intriguing places.

Arrive in the lively city of Cluj-Napoca, often called the heart of Transylvania’s cultural scene.

Begin with a delicious lunch at Garlic Bistro, a local favorite known for its modern twist on traditional Transylvanian flavors. Be sure to try their unique garlic soup — a staple of local lore, and perfect protection before tonight’s supernatural walk.

After lunch, enjoy a short stroll through Cluj’s Old Town, passing iconic landmarks like the Banffy Palace and St. Michael’s Church.

The baroque architecture and bustling squares reveal centuries of stories, blending the past with the city’s youthful energy. Check in at the charming Hotel Beyfin, ideally located downtown — your comfortable retreat after tonight’s eerie exploration.

As evening approaches, prepare for one of Romania’s most spine-tingling experiences: an evening hike through the infamous Hoia Baciu Forest, often called the Bermuda Triangle of Romania.

Named after a shepherd who vanished within its twisted trees along with his entire flock, the forest gained worldwide attention in 1968 when a military technician photographed a supposed UFO hovering over its mysterious clearing. Since then, countless visitors have reported strange sensations: sudden nausea, anxiety, flickering electronics, and shadowy figures moving between the trees.

With a seasoned local guide — who still feels uneasy in certain hidden glades — you’ll step into the myths and mysteries of this haunted woodland. Is Hoia Baciu truly cursed? Or is it simply misunderstood? Tonight, you have a chance to decide for yourself.

After this chilling adventure, return safely to your hotel in Cluj and drift off to sleep with new tales to tell and mysteries to ponder.

Ancient Citadels, Vampire Prisons, and Legends at Corvin Castle

Today’s journey takes you deeper into the spiritual heart of Romania, where monumental fortresses and chilling legends blend into a living tapestry of history and mystery.

Begin with a visit to the awe-inspiring Alba Iulia Citadel, one of the best-preserved Vauban fortresses in Europe. Often called the spiritual capital of Romania, this star-shaped citadel holds over 2,000 years of stories — from ancient Roman roots to Romania’s pivotal Union Day.

Explore its grand gates, bastions, and the beautiful Roman-Catholic Cathedral, where the tombstones of the master builders of Corvin Castle lie in eternal rest. Here, every stone whispers tales of rulers, revolutionaries, and unsolved secrets.

Next, experience lunch with a medieval twist at Pub 13, a cozy restaurant hidden within the citadel’s ancient wine cellar. Indulge in local flavors and imagine the intrigues that once unfolded in these shadowed halls.

After lunch, continue your adventure to legendary Corvin Castle — also known as Hunyad Castle — the largest medieval castle in Romania and one of Europe’s finest examples of Gothic-Renaissance architecture.

Stories swirl around this imposing fortress: some say Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned here by Hungarian nobles, fueling rumors that his restless spirit still roams the corridors. It’s no wonder Corvin Castle has starred in numerous ghost documentaries and horror films, including The Nun series.

Join your guide for a deep dive into the castle’s turbulent history, then take things a step further with a private paranormal investigation inside its ancient walls, staying after hours to explore every dark corner without interruption.

After your ghost hunt, unwind at the chic Werk Hotel, which offers modern comfort with industrial design touches and panoramic views of the illuminated castle. Indulge in the relaxing spa amenities — saunas and a heated pool await, with additional treatments available by advance booking.

Cap off the evening with a delicious buffet dinner at Werk Restaurant, where reimagined traditional dishes meet global flavors, all served in full view of the castle that still guards so many secrets.

Saxon Secrets, Breathtaking Mountain Roads, and a Lake of Legends

This leg of your Transylvanian adventure blends culture, thrill, and stunning alpine scenery, taking you from the charming squares of Sibiu to the winding heights of the Transfăgărășan Road, famously dubbed the greatest driving route in the world.

Begin the day exploring Sibiu, one of Romania’s most beloved cultural gems. Once the heart of the Transylvanian Saxons, Sibiu has a rich legacy as a bustling medieval trading hub. It has also earned modern acclaim as the European Capital of Culture and the European Gastronomy Capital, and has even been ranked among Europe’s most idyllic places to live.

On a guided walking tour, wander through the town’s elegant squares and narrow cobbled streets. Take in the colorful baroque facades, unique rooftops famously known as “the buildings with eyes,” and admire centuries-old churches, defensive towers, and fortified bastions that echo Sibiu’s storied past.

Next, embark on an unforgettable drive along the legendary Transfăgărășan Road — a breathtaking ribbon of hairpin turns and panoramic mountain views connecting Wallachia and Transylvania.

Built across the dramatic Făgăraș Mountains, this twisting highway was crowned by Top Gear as the world’s best road trip. Please note: mountain conditions can be unpredictable, and your safety comes first — if the road is closed due to weather, a scenic alternate route will be taken instead.

At the peak of your mountain crossing, pause at Bâlea Glacier Lake, a spectacular alpine jewel surrounded by rugged peaks.

Stretch your legs, soak in the crisp mountain air, and stroll among the local farmers’ stalls for a hearty alpine lunch — the perfect way to fuel up amid nature’s grandeur.

As you descend the Transfăgărășan, your next stop is the majestic Vidraru Dam and the shimmering expanse of Vidraru Lake — the largest artificial lake in Romania, nestled amid dense forest and towering cliffs. Weather permitting, enjoy a tranquil boat ride across its pristine waters, watching for local wildlife (including the occasional curious bear along the roadside!).

Settle in for the evening at Posada-Vidraru Hotel, an elegant Tudor-style retreat perched on the mountainside overlooking the lake. Unwind with complimentary access to the spa and pool — the perfect way to relax after a day of cultural discovery and mountain adventure.

End your evening with a cozy Transylvanian feast and spooky fireside storytelling.

PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight changes depending on availability, weather, and travel conditions.

DAY 10: Nov.5th, 2025 image

Conquer Vlad’s Real Fortress

Your adventure today brings you face-to-face with the true stronghold of Vlad the Impaler — a site steeped in tragic history and dramatic mountain views that reward the brave.

Start the day with a climb up the legendary Poenari Fortress, often called the real Dracula’s Castle. Unlike the more famous Bran Castle, this ruin clings to a cliffside above the Argeș River and can only be reached by conquering 1,476 steep steps. It’s a challenge worthy of any vampire hunter — but the breathtaking view from the top, with emerald forests rolling over endless mountain peaks, is worth every drop of sweat.

Poenari’s past is as dark as its legends: during an Ottoman siege, Vlad the Impaler’s wife is said to have leapt to her death from its ramparts rather than be captured — and some claim her anguished cries still echo through the crumbling stone walls on stormy nights.

After your descent, head to nearby Pitești for lunch at La Tuciuri, a beloved local restaurant that celebrates the simplicity and flavor of classic Romanian country cooking. Savor hearty traditional dishes inspired by recipes passed down through generations.

In the afternoon, return to Bucharest, where your journey began — and where more surprises still await. Check back into the iconic Hotel Cișmigiu, a Belle Époque landmark whispered to be among Bucharest’s most haunted stays. Its grand halls and vintage charm make it the perfect base as you wrap up your Transylvanian tales.

Return to Bucharest and check back into the haunted Hotel Cișmigiu.

The rest of the evening is yours to rest, wander, or reflect on the journey you’ve taken through history, mystery, and myth.

PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight changes depending on availability, weather, and travel conditions.

From Darkness to Light — Jilava Prison & the Final Farewell

Today, you face Romania’s most harrowing chapter with a visit to Jilava Prison, a former fortress turned political prison under Communism.

Descend into its cold, underground cells where torture, resistance, and ghost stories coexist. This is also where Romania’s infamous “Vampire Killer” was executed — a chilling bookend to your vampire-themed journey.

After lunch in the hauntingly themed Casa Comana, explore the monastery founded by Vlad the Impaler himself. Could he be buried here, not at Snagov? The legend endures.

Your final stop is Bellu Cemetery, the largest and most famous burial ground in Romania. Here, among angels, poets, and statesmen, you’ll take part in a unique haunted game — a scavenger hunt through crypts and shadows.

One last night at Hotel Cișmigiu awaits — spend it as you wish. The ghosts of Romania now know your name.

PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability or weather & travel conditions.
