Join us on an epic 7-day safari as we explore some of the most stunning landscapes in East Africa in search of the Big 5: Rhino, Elephants, Lions, Leopards, and Cape Buffalo. We will visit Tarangire National Park (Elephant Paradise), Ngorongoro (the best view in the continent!), Central Serengeti (Simba’s home), and Northern Serengeti, where if lucky, we will witness the wildebeest crossing the crock-infected Mara River! And as if that wasn’t enough, we will also meet the Maasai and Hadzabe tribes to truly immerse ourselves in bush life.
From sunrise over Mount Kilimanjaro to sunsets over the endless savannah, you can expect action-packed days guaranteed to make lifelong memories. So pack your camera, and let’s enjoy the adventure of a lifetime!
listed on the itinerary
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, we will meet you and transfer you to Osiligiliai Maasai Eco Lodge Hotel, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, where you kick start your African adventure by immersing yourself in the culture and traditions of Maasai tribal life.
Be prepared to become entranced with their guttural chanting as we go about the day learning how they survive off the land. Try your hand with the spear, join them on a sunset hike, and if you are brave, taste some blood! Then, as the sun sets over Mount Meru, sit around the campfire listening to tribal stories before we all tuck into our first group dinner before retiring for the night in a traditional Maasai Mud Hut.
Meals included: snacks and dinner.
Start the day as the sun rises over Mount Kilimanjaro before waving goodbye to the Maasai people and heading towards our first National Park of the trip: Tarangire National Park, otherwise also known as Elephant Paradise. There is no better place to see elephants than in Tarangire! And best of all, you can expect them to come very close to the safari truck!
Aside from elephants, the park is teeming with other wildlife, so get ready to start ticking off animal sightings! You can expect to find everything from zebras to warthogs, including wildebeest, eland, hartebeest, gazelle, buffalo, lions, and even baboons! The park is also home to 450 bird species, so have binoculars ready!
After a full day’s game drive, we will retire to Eileen’s Lodge for the night and a hearty, delicious buffet dinner.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We will start before sunrise today to make it to the crater’s rim in time for golden hour. Looking down into the Ngorongoro caldera is one of the greatest sights in all of Africa. Once the largest mountain in Africa, it is now the only remaining intact caldera in the world, and it has become a wildlife haven.
With 25,000 large mammals inhabiting this relatively small National Park (100 square miles), it is incredibly easy to spot wildlife. It is also the best place to see the endangered black rhino. You can also expect to spot zebra, wildebeest, hyenas, elands, gazelle, lions, elephants, antelopes, jackals, hippos, ostriches, and plenty of flamingos.
After a hot picnic lunch by one of the beautiful lakes, we will head towards the endless plains of the Serengeti for another game drive on our way to our evening’s tented camp: Into Wild Tented Camp. Each tent has a bed and ensuite bathroom with a shower, perfect for relaxing after a long dusty day on the road.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Today it is all about the lions! Central Serengeti is one of the best places on the continent to see lion prides. It is worth getting up early to watch them when they are most active, and if you are lucky, you might even see them while they hunt. As well as lions, we will also spot lots of other wildlife, including elephants, buffalos, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, giraffes, grants gazelles, impalas, kongoni, eland, cheetahs, and if we are lucky, leopards too! With the best wildlife spotter at the wheel, you can be sure it will be a fascinating day with endless opportunities to capture incredible wildlife footage.
As the day progresses, we will make our way North, ready for the warmest of welcomes at our tented camp for the night: the Heritage Mara Camp.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
In September, the wildebeest migration is in Northern Serengeti, which is what we will be looking for. They should be easy to find; after all, 1.5 million of them are on the move! If lucky, we might spot them crossing the crock-infested Mara River, a truly magnificent sighting otherwise only ever seen in David Attenborough’s documentaries!
As well as wildebeest though, we will also be on the lookout for large groups of buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and every kind of antelope! We can also expect to see lions, leopards, and cheetahs.
Our game drive will take us south again to Central Serengeti for our final night in the bush, back at the wonder Into Wild Luxury Tented Camp.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
After a final morning’s game drive, it is time to drive back to civilisation. This is the chance to try and find any animals we still need to spot or to revisit any of our favourites. But eventually, it will be time to wave the Serengeti goodbye as we make the long bumpy drive back to Karatu, where we once again will stay at Eileen’s lodge. We will arrive mid-afternoon which will allow us enough time to enjoy the pool and gardens.
Tonight will be our final dinner. A chance to share all the memories we will have created over the last 6 days, and a chance to toast to new friendships.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We have a special outing planned for our final day: a morning with the Hadzabe tribe. The Hadzabe are true hunter-gatherers, living off of their surroundings and maintaining a lifestyle very close to our ancestors. We will learn about their traditions and join them on a hunt. We might even share some of the catch with them if we are lucky! A morning with the Hadzabe is indeed like stepping back in time.
After lunch, you will be transferred back to Kilimanjaro airport ready for your onward journey.
Meals included: breakfast and lunch.
