ACCLIMATIZATION WALK - CERRO FUYA-FUYA
Mountaineering lovers each year find in Ecuador's elevations the perfect place to live high
altitude experiences. Volcanoes like Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Cayambe or Sangay take center
stage in this extreme adventure and provoke fans to want to conquer their peaks. But before
going through them, it is important to carry out a previous acclimatization, to achieve the
purpose of reaching its summits. The most optimal and recommended is to adapt to the
environment in lower mountains such as the FUYA-FUYA hill. This hill is located near the
Mojanda Lagoons, passing the town of Pedro Moncayo 17 km south of Otavalo. It has an
altitude of 4290 m. Its name comes from the kichwa Fuyu which means "cloud", this is
because its peaks are usually covered with thick clouds. Those who decide to go on this
incredible adventure must be prepared for sudden changes in the weather. Adequate clothing,
equipment and food are essential in this journey. Close to the elevation are other natural
attractions such as the Taxopamba waterfalls or the Mojanda lagoons, where various
adventure tourism activities are practiced. The Fuya Fuya allows adventurers to practice
various types of mountain. To reach the highest point of the Mojanda knot, you can take one
of the three trails that lead to the summit, cross a steep and short grassland, and then cross
rocky segments until you reach the summit, where you can contemplate the Mojanda Lagoon
and admire nearby elevations such as Cayambe, Imbabura and Cotacachi.
