After breakfast at our hotel, we set off for our tour of Accra.  You will visit historical sites and learn about the historical beginnings of Ghana as an independent country. Gain insight into Ghana’s visionary leaders and relate their goals with the current impacts of the country’s most influential leaders.  

We will visit the W. E. B. DuBois and the Pan African Center which serve as a memorial place and  research center.  At the center we will visit the African American Association of Ghana office and join other returnees to participate in some of the yearlong activities earmarked for "Beyond the Return”

We explore James Town next, which is lone of the oldest settlements in Ghana. James Town which is a fishing community with a lot of vibrant tourist activities notably - the recent Street Festival “Chale Wote” with a lot of fascinating street art.

During our Accra tour we will also visit Independence Square and view the enclosed flame of African liberation, which was lit by Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president in 1961. We continue the short distance to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, final resting place of Ghana’s founder. Set in attractive gardens, there is an adjoining museum, which contains photos, artifacts and an insight into this incredible man’s life. Adjoining the park is the National Cultural Center, which is Ghana’s largest outdoor arts and crafts market selling traditional crafts from all over West Africa.  Enjoy Kente weaving workshop to learn about history behind Kente and try our hands at looming.

The remainder of the evening is for leisure.

Nestled in the heart of the Eastern Region, just a short drive from Accra, this picturesque double waterfall awaits your exploration. As you embark on this adventure, be prepared to immerse yourself in the captivating beauty of Ghana's landscape. Your journey to Boti Falls begins with a scenic drive through the countryside, passing by charming villages and lush greenery. Today, we embark on a deeply emotional journey of self-discovery and remembrance as we visit the historic Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Portuguese in 1482, this castle is the oldest European building in Sub-Saharan Africa and played a significant role in the transatlantic enslaved African trade era.

As we walk through the Male and Female dungeons and witness the cramped living conditions, you will gain a powerful understanding of the atrocities committed against our ancestors. This visit culminates with the hauntingly infamous “Door of No Return,” which enslaved Africans passed through before being shipped to the New World.

Although this journey can be difficult, it is an essential step in reconnecting with our past and honoring our ancestors.

As the New Year begins and the old one ends, we'd love to celebrate the last day of the year with an amazing NYE Dinner.

Take a break and rejuvenate after the New Year's Eve celebration. Sunday in Ghana is known for its lively beach parties, and we'll be joining in on the fun! Spend the day soaking up the sun, feeling the sand between your toes and listening to the sounds of the ocean waves. This is a perfect opportunity to experience the vibrant Ghanaian beach culture with live performances by local artists, delicious food, refreshing drinks, and even horseback riding. Make sure to take advantage of the unique shopping opportunities and pick up some souvenirs to remember your unforgettable trip to Ghana.

Today we embark on a meaningful journey to our host Ghanaian village. We will be paying our respects to Village Chiefs and Queen Mothers, as we participate in a tradition that dates back centuries. We will start by pouring of libation, and the Right to Return: Atonement & Rituals Ceremony, where we officially restore you to the cultural and spiritual connections that were denied and stripped from us during the transatlantic slave trade.

The highlight of our visit to the village is the Sankofa ceremony, which includes a traditional naming rite ceremony and family integration. You will be welcomed home with a lot of fanfare, as the entire village comes together to celebrate your return with traditional drumming and dancing. As a gesture of appreciation, we will also present our adopted village with a donation.

In the evening, we will gather for our Farewell event, reflecting on our experiences and forging new connections with the community we have been fortunate to visit. This is a day that will leave a lasting impression on your heart and soul.
